Default Changing DRL Sockets-2000 Trans Am

hello all,
my blinkers dont light up in the car, nor do they blink outside. everytime i change a fuse it burns out. based on reading posts here, a suggestion is to change or clean the sockets. my only question is do you take the sockets out to do it? if so, how do you take them out?
just by changing the bulbs, there is not much slack in the socket wire, so I assume you take them out to clean. if i am going down the wrong road, can you pls advise?
thank you

Just buy new ones. I just installed some last weekend in my car. They were 3.49 ea at O Reillys. You'll have to cut the old ones off. I also used alot of di-electric grease when I installed my new bulbs. That will help keep them from corroding.

You can buy the sockets at autozone, the part number is 85881. Check out LS2.com, they have a good write-up on installing a new socket w/o cutting anything.

The GM sockets have a bout 8" or so of wire on them. But they are on the pricey side.

Whats the best way to get to them. I had to change a bulb on my passenger side, and i could only go from top with the headlight up. Any tips! for future returns

you can fit your hand in the empty spot under the drl, you might have to wiggle but should slip it out, if not there a panel under the socket which will give you plenty of work room. it may be the flasher unit also. if the lights arent coming on on the dash its most likely the flasher unit.

go from underside of car on your back and cut the old ones off. replace. i got mine at advanced auto for 7.99 a peice and reinstalled them. really easy use the grease and alot of it. trust me drill two or three small holes in the light itself for water drainage and take some electrical tape and tape aound the bulb after you put it in. i did this like three years ago and havent replaced them since

I had the exact same issue on my driver side.
Took me 2 hours to figure out how to replace the whole thing (and I had to cut the wires) but now it is working just fine.
By the way, do you guys have the name of the engineer of all this crap ? 'cause I really want to slap him for coming up with such a bad design !!!!

search button in action.

After replacing the drl housing and drilling a few holes in the bottom, ive had no more problems with them. I have a bunch of sockets that i stocked up on that are now gathering dust

I've replaced them on several cars, but the ones on my A4 DD have held up. The key, as others have said, is when replacing the bulbs to clean out the sockets well and slather on the di-electric grease.

Bringing this back from the dead. My passenger side DRL (and I'm sure the driver side also) already has a replacement socket spliced into it. The light is burned, new light didn't work, so will try to replace the socket if cleaning doesn't work. Thanks for the part number for the socket.

Once you replace the sockets, switch to led bulbs. I quit burning sockets out after I put these in:

Very bright, even in the daytime, and run cool in the socket.
