Default question regarding auto transmission/buying 2001 trans am.

Technically i could put this in the auto transmission section but i figured here would possibly work as well.
So basically i found a 2001 trans am for a very good deal but its automatic...i understand that most people love the 6spd and will even say a sports car is stupid if its auto...but yeah my questions lie with this, in my research the auto transmission has 2.73?? gears and the manual has a 3.23 or 3.27? can't remember exact numbers. and i understand that effects performance. so my question would be how much performance am i losing, and i understand that you can get shift kits and what not, or even get higher gears but yeah just a general opinion on them and the 2001 trans am...
so overall would i be losing a lot of power or would just be id have to make some slight modifications ie shift kit etc to make up for it? or should i keep looking and stick to 6spd?

All six speed (f-body) ls1 cars come from the factory with 3.42 gears and autos come with 2.73 or 3.23. All ws6 and ss auto come with 3.23 gears. If you get a base model trans am with 2.73 or 3.23 just go get a 3200 vigilante stall or a Yank ss 3600 with a trans cooler if the trans is in good working condition. If you have the funds go and get a rebuilt trans from FLT or RPM or Paformabuilt. A stalled auto is crazy off the line with the right set of sticky tires and suspension (torque arm, rear lower control arms and etc.) A six speed however is fun to drive and lots of fun roll racing! My choice would be stay auto and get a stall but it depends on ur goals for the car. Good luck

i wish my car was a 6 speed but i still love it to death. sure it's a few tenths slower and sucks from a roll but it's still fun. if you're getting a good deal go for it.

If you'd install a nice converter, you could probably eliminate that thought!

Drag racing, you can't shift faster than the computer. A4 is good for drag racin' if set-up properly. A4's a re not known for tearing up the differential as bad as the M6 either.

A4 is also good for a daily driver in stop/go traffic.

Punch it & steer, ..., no fightin' for gears, ...
So, as mentioned, it all depends on your intentions. If it's a good deal, then buy it. You can mod the way you want for improvements along the way.

If you plan on taking it to the drag strip very often I say get the Auto and put a stall in it.
An M6 will break the 10 bolt before long.
If you like racing from a roll then get an M6.
