Default SS vs Trans Am. Same Mods

So me and my friends were riding around our local town last night. i was in my friends truck across town from my other friends who found a camaro ss. they got to talkin to him and it turns out he had the same exact mods as me. so my friends call me and tell me to bring my car over and race this guy. they told me he had the same mods, so i couldnt pass it up. so i went to get my car and meet up with them. when i get there i see a red camaro ss. it was a 2001 auto with k&n drop in, pacesetter lt's, ory, and slp catback. mine is a 98 m6 Pacesetter, ory, and flowmaster. thats it. so we travel to mexico and find the longest abandoned road we could. we went from a 40 roll. i honk. 1...2...3... his auto had to downshift so i jumped about a car. around 110 he is passin me and around 125 he is 2 cars ahead. im confused?? he just owned me with the same exact mods. i saw no point in racing him more than i did bc i could see his car was clearly superior.

01 has ls6 intake and a little bit better flowing heads. Plus, most of the flowmasters don't flow very well, I have one on my car at the moment. They sound pretty good though.

Nahh prolly not the driver mod, plus what kind of gearing did the dude in the ss have? That could make a difference and maybe dude had a little more done than he let on, you never know. But that doesn't seem unreasonable to me it's a 15-20 hp difference and with some different gears, it could easily be 2 cars.

ok...im gonna go ahead and tell you when he poped his hood. i looked and didnt see anything but headers. stock lid, stock ls6 intake, !AIR, heads looked the same, looked completly stock other than headers. Now my car has had a rear end swap from the previous owner. my thinking is that maybe the previous owner, not knowing much about fbodys, found a rearend from an auto with 3.23's. possiblitly?

ls6 intake. it was THE best mod I did, well next to the spray. and yes there is a huge difference with driving. I once saw a six car difference in driving from 40.

he has an ls6 intake.. you dont... thats why... on the ls6 intakd cars, it has alot of air intake, and if you put headers on it, it increases the flow. my ws6 with just headers makes alot of power because of the ls6 intake...more flow, more power

The ls6 intake is gonna give it that extra power up top, that's probably why he pulled on you like that at the higher speeds. I don't really know a power difference between the ls6 intake mani and the ls1, I have been in cars with both, but they had other things done as well so that wasn't enough to base it on.

He has a LS6 intake, lid, headers, ORY and SLP catback vs your LS1 intake, stock lid, headers, ORY and stock I pipe w/ flowmaster muffler.

Clearly he has the upper hand and it showed. If you raced him on his DEAD spot 35 roll, it would've have been a different story.

I would have to agree and say its because of the ls6 intake.

once again its the intake, you wont see a difference just by looking at it under the hood it looks just alike your ls1 intake but its worth a good 15 hp in the upper end of the revs, theres plenty of other things he could have done and it still looked stock but thats prolly it, if anyone is interested TPIS did an intake manifold comparison on ls1 intakes and they show this difference between the ls1 and ls6 intakes, and various others

I myself also got called to mexico...to race the camaro, I raced him three times and had him from 40 to 120 before he had to slow down (he was coming back). From like a 20 had him to 115 (passed me like he did silverM6ta. From stop had him to like 120 or so before same pass. All and all, it was fun.

also i wondering why no one asked about the SS being on stock stall or re-stalled? that can also help the auto's out some.

and also X2 on the chokemasters, even thou i have them too.

and again X2 on the tunes, if he had one and you didnt that could easily have been another reason he pulled up top.
