Default Nitto 555r's+rain= how bad?

I have done quite a bit of research about DR's. The prevailing opinion is- 555R's are more manageable on wet roads than the MT's or Hoosiers. My question is, for example, under steady throttle with 555R's will I be constantly having to correct the car to avoid sliding off the road going around curves at 40 mph, or are they not THAT bad?

How much power are you making? I have no trouble with mine at all unless im trying to break them loose. The car actually still corners somewhat good. You wont find a tire with better rain traction and summer traction.

I had ET Drags on my car for a day and got caught in the rain. 15 min drive in it too. Speed limit was 45. As long as you do the speed limit and take your time, you'll be fine.

I have the 555RII's, I think you live in TX...? just be aware of the manufacturer caution on driving them in freezing temps and storing them from cracking.

Thanks for the input ya'll. I am basically stock, 325 rwhp/ 3.73's.... I am just tired of boiling the tires through 2nd gear. Obviously my car will be faster if I can hook up. But, I asked the question because I have never had DR's, and my car is a true DD. I rely on it to get to work. I want to hook up, but not sacrifice it as a DD. We get alot of rain in Houston in the winter! Thanks again

You will have no problems with traction unless you try. Im getting in the 10-12k mile range out of my 315s, in fact its getting about that time to replace them.

Sweet, when I buy mine I go on ebay and buy from Discount Tires Direct who happen to be an LS1Tech sponser, but last time I just sent them a message and they matched the price of teh auction. I have bought about 3 sets of rears and 2 fronts(2 different cars...lol) and never had a problem.

The rears used to be $338 shipped for the pair but I think I saw that they raised the price to $368 or so.

be sure to read the warning label if stored in freezing temps and how they crack, see my link above.

every one ive ever known that's got nitto dr's....or toyo dr's(same thing) hate them. i even know someone that was sponserd by them but would only run them in the front and eventually lost his sponsership because of it. if you want something better in the rain check out the bfg dr's ive herd there not quite as great at the track as the m/t's but are way better in the rain.

For the first 6000 - 8000 miles nitto DRs were fine in the rain at 60 mph. After that, the grooves are too worn down to be trusted in the rain at highway speed for my tastes. If you drive thorugh a big section of standing water they will hydroplane before a regular street tire. I drove in a safe manner when it rained and never had any problems. If you like to haul *** in the rain, they are not the tire for you.

i have been daily driving my nitto 555Rs for 2 years. Most of it is city driving so rain is never an issue, on the highway i always take it easy in the rain. Overall i dont have much to complain about with this tire other than it being so damn skinny. I'm very impressed with the wear, i have had a set of Bfg KD 315s in storage for almost a year thinking i will put them on soon... yet the nittos are still in good shape so its going to delay that.

I wouldn't worry about it. This guy has 14k miles on his. That is ALOT of miles on some drag radials. I ran them for about 5k miles before selling the wheels with them and I had 0 problems driving on them rain and shine. You just have to be cautious as you would have to with any tires on the rear

I had some et streets on my stock rims and I couldn't drive over 30 mph in the rain, but I just recently bought some TT2's with 80% bald nittos and ive been able to drive to work at 40 mph in the rain with no problem at all

I have 315 nitto DR's on my car. They have excellent tread wear compared to other drag radials, and hook amazingly well on the street. As far as rain traction, i had them aired to 30, (high, i know) but they were VERY manageable. as in, no loose *** end. I had street 275's on before, and the nitto DR's actually hook better on wet pavement than the streets did! i might just be an anomaly, but i've had excellent luck with these tires. You would do well to just consider them a VERY sticky street tire. They hold the power i'm making now, but not for long....
