Too much, NADA clean retail value is $31,150..
You should be able to find a low mileage 02-04 Z06 for 25k or less.

I'm in the market now for a C5 ZO6. Prices do vary alot, from ratty high-mileage cars in the high-teens, to super-low mileage perfect cars in the high 20's. I have seen a few just over 30 though. But 40? He is out of his mind. Beautiful car, yes, but in this market he's lucky to get 30. I'm looking for a '02-'04, under 30K miles, for around 25K.

Agreed..
You can one one like you want if you look a bit, I found mine here in my town with just under 25k miles on it for $26k a little over a year ago. It came with new black Z06 wheels/new tires, B&B exhaust, short throw, partition..etc..
I was happy. :D

the only one I saw for 40 was that one in the magazine that was for sale on here. It was flawless though...

It's been done a few times before. The VIN does check out for an '04 Z06 though.

Yup, where I live there aren't too many around for sale. Might mean driving a few hours. No biggie. I did find one that fit my needs, 24K, 29,500 miles, stock. But it was black. I like the black, but I have a black car, and really don't want another. If it was yellow, blue, silver, etc I'd have my car already. So I'm still looking....
There had better be a $15,000 diamond set in the dash, if you're going to pay $40,000 for a C5 Z06.

Or you can get a C6 Z06
Or a brand new C6 with plenty left over for mods.

They are rolling through dealer auctions in the low $20s. See them all the time.
Just watched a silver M6 '04 Z06 w/21k on it pull $22k a few weeks ago.
