ok so i built another motor for my car. i put 1.8 roller rockers on the motor the cam now is a 240.242.613.613 but......the problem is i checked the clearance and i had .040 and i was like that will be fine, but i didnt think that the lifters had been sitting for quite a while with out being used. so my question is should i worry about how much the lifters will "pump up". i know in my ford lifters they will colapse quite a bit but i am not sure about ls1 lifters.

When checking PTV clearance, you must use a solid lifter. If you use a stock lifter the plunger will depress negating the reading.

yeah i realized that a few mins ago. i think i will just put the 1.7s back on there and sell the hs 1.8s

Is there a way to make a stock lifter solid? Im swapping to cranes soon and need to check PTV, but I dont want to have to buy a one off solid lifter!

Yes, you can take an old lifter you are no longer going to use, remove the spring and pull out the bucket. Then fill the lifter with washers and put the bucket and spring back it. You now have a solid test lifter.

i should have done that before the car was in the car but i screwed up and didnt think about that. grrr

I take apart the old lifter and throw away the internal spring. Insert the plunger into the lifter body; then, use 1/4" AN washers to space the push rod plunger up to the height of the C-Clip. Now you have a solid lifter.
