Default First time ever at the track = pretty O.K.

Went to Mason Dixon Dragway yesterday for the Street Races event. I was hoping for a free for all but they had classes set up. I was one up from pure street in the light street class. Anyways, I roll into the park and get teched in. as I'm walking around they announce that as the sun goes down a movie screen will be set up and everyone gets to watch movies. This is a twist I think and I may hang around if the movie is good. It will probably be a car movie.

So what was the movie?.....The Car

Well, they call for the light street class to hit the lanes and about half the park starts thier engines. I get set up in the lanes and take about ten minutes to get to the starting line. I'm a little nervous as I pull up to the traps, so I keep running this little mantra through my head, When the light turns green then you go, when the light turns green, then you go.

I'm next to this faded blue first gen camaro with loud rumpety exhaust, and slicks. I'm thinking my first time out is going to be a slight massacre.

When the light turns green, go. I never knew that I should actually be saying, when the last amber turns go. Needless to say, when the light turned green, I was looking like a goober.

How's a 1.094 reaction time sound?
I should get an award for that. Anyways, I go from about 1000 rpm powerbrake and hook pretty good I guess. Second gear comes on and I get a major scratch from that shift. By about the 1/8th I was a car length back and stayed there the whole race.

I wish I had a scanner but here's the time slip.

R/T: 1.094 (Never did get the plaque )
60': 1.974
330: 5.455
1/8: 8.373
MPH: 84.28
1000: 10.904
1/4: 13.053
MPH: 105.00

The second time up I did a bit better
R/T: .808
60': 1.930
330: 5.392
1/8: 8.301
MPH: 84.54
1000: 10.824
1/4: 12.964
MPH: 105.52

Did you know that if you run faster than a 12.99 at Mason Dixon you need a helmut? Well, I did not so that was the end of my day. oh well, I still had fun and definately plan to go back. Oh yeah, I ran into a guy with a yellow six-speed Supra on the way back, in Taneytown and he said that there would a bunch of Supras running at Capitol city Raceway the next weekend. Anybody know anything about this place?

Well, they are 13.9 and under at Mason Dixon. But for some reason they didn't enforce it until I hit 12.9.

sounds just like my first time. I got a 1.1 RT, 2.1 60 foot and i ran a 13.6 i was nervous as hell. just need practice i guess. And insted of pulling up to a camaro i pulled up to a mustang 5.0 running open headers big slicks and he had a full race suit and just barley beat me. and i also didnt have a helmet.

Everyone was pulling a nice long tire spin when they shifted to second. I'm sure that was slowing everyone down. On the p!ss you off side, there was a new Cobra that ran just as I was leaving...12.6 at 113. I have no idea if he had any mods, the exhaust sounded pretty quiet though.
