Default polluter or torquer v.2, with 5.3 heads

I'm putting together a ls1 head cam combo to install this spring. The lower half is bone stock except for rod bolts. I have a set of ported 706 casting 5.3 heads with 2.02 intake valves that flow around 280cfm. I have been trying to decide on a cam for this combo and the most obvious problem im facing is PTV issues. The heads are not milled at all yet, however i would like to take them down .015 for a added bump in comp and to be positive that they seal.

I love the sound and curve of the polluter and would prefer it over the v.2 if it will fit..... I talked to tick perf and they said the cam should fit if the heads are not milled, but still recomend checking ptv. The problem is if i buy a cam and it doesnt fit, i not only lose the time in ordering a new cam, but most importantly the money< i live in detroit and times are tuff in the "D" lol.

So if anyone has ran this combo in the past please chime in.......

And i know everyone is gonna tell me to buy 243, AFR or tsp 2.5 heads to avoid this problem. the fact is these are the heads i have and unless someone wants to donate something better, these will be the heads I run!!

nothing wrong with your heads, lots of guys run cam only so screw it!
What are your goals for the car? street/strip or hardcore drag?

Honestly I too am REALLY interested in the polluter, love the name and the way it sounds, but if I was going to go something mega huge I would go MS4 or TREX, nothing against the polluter, but how can you argue with years of results, including stock bottom end record MS4, correct me if Im wrong.
Polluter just dosent have enough independent testing behind it to make me comfortable with it yet, but we will see. I hope it does well because I love the freaking name!
best bet is to get with predator Z or pat G and get a custom grind to your application, or do what most sane people do and get a 224ish cam for starters, get used to it and go from there.

ok monster ill give you my address and you can just drop off the parts< screw feed the children, im taking hp donations! lol j/k.
the car already has a ls6 intake ported tb, big bore maf, cold air intake,3.42 gears,ls7 clutch, 13/4 headers and straight thru duals with no baffles
i'm looking for street strip with the combo, car weighs 3200 w/ my fat *** in in so it shouldnt be too hard to hit mid 11's if i can stick the launch.
i'm not even gonna watse my time with these smaller cams cause to be honest its more valuable to me to sound sick on woodward ave, than to be drivable, (anyway cant fit a baby seat in a C5 so i wont be too concerned with drivability)

Damn 3200 lbs must be nice!

well Ill give it to you at least you know what you want!
Like I said if it were me Id go with a proven performer like MS4 or TREX. Figure out the overlap on the cam itll tell you how much lope youll have. Again correct me if Im wrong but MS4 is like 16 degrees overlap? (intake duration+exhaust duration/2-LSAx2=overlap?)

i believe your in the ballpark on the ms4. However there are 2 main reasons i cant run the ms3 or ms4. First is the ptv. i hate working on these c5's and i dont have a shop to pull the motor so flycutting the pistons wont really be an option till i blow the current motor
The second issue i have is valve spring life expectancy. i can get by with comp 918's w the v.2, and the should be reliable with the milder lobes on the v.2. The v.2 comes as ordered with a 112, or 113 lsa, i wouldnt mind ordering a custom v.2 with 111lsa provided texas speed reccomends it.

someone needs to say something about the polluter or even something else like a 233/239 or f13. i 'm starting to make up my own mind while im typing this and i would rather have someone elses opinion too.......

well thanks for your reply's. i apologize but i just saw the numbers on your car and with that "small" cam i gotta say you made some big power and prob made one hell of a flat tq curve. how do you like those tsp 5.3 heads? if i had the $$ that would be my route

I like em, they do very well with my car especially considering the 9 inch rear, and at that time I was still y pipe I dont have numbers for the new H pipe.

If I had it to do all over again Id get the PRC 2.5 LS6 heads unmilled and a mid 230's cam.

I don't know how they think the Polluter will fit with 5.3's and bigger valves. I had to cut reliefs on my stock bottom end and Tea Stage 1.5 5.3's, milled .010" with a 230/236 cam. Not saying that it won't, but I wouldn't take anybodys word for it without measuring. I just received my Polluter (love the name too ) yesterday and hoping that I cut big enough reliefs to fit it. Are you also considering gears in the near future too?

i see what your saying with the fly cutting. i really dont want to buy a cam just to find out it doesnt work with these heads. i think the v.2 is a safer bet.
i'm not really considering gears at this time, i'm sure with 3:90 or 4:11 i would get much more out of the cam, however it is a m6 and i have a hard time keeping the tires under it already so im a little worried about coming into the power band any sooner

I hear you....traction is a huge issue with 4.10's. Was wondering why you didn't put the Torquer v3 in your choices? Almost the same duration but a bunch more lift, especially on the intake side. If you are considering milling the heads, fly cutting is not a real big deal to do while the engine is in the car and opens up so many possibilties for future cam changes. Have you considered it?

well the v3 has even more lift which would cause premature valspring failure and of course a bigger ptv prob. now i may be a little old skool but how woul i go about flycutting the pistons while still in the car, and is this something i can do in my driveway? sounds awesome if feasible

Actually, duration is the big killer when it comes to ptv contact. By the time full lift is in, the piston is away from the valve. But if the valves are held open a long time, the risk is greater. There are several links that shows how fly cutting can be done in car. I did it about 2 years ago. It's not fun, but a lot of guys have done it. I'll send you the links in a few minutes.

Here you go. The first link is from 3 years ago (already) from GuitsBoy. He got me thinking I can do this procedure and even loaned me the tools he made and the mockup head to do the cutting. Thanks GuitsBoy!

The next link is from 405hp zo6, very smart guy. He is showing the newest tools which don't need mockup heads and next link is the step by step procedure done by Irocss85.

wow, that is some shadetree mechanic stuff, i like it. never thought that was possible.
well i am leaning to the v.2 cam now and with that i wont need to worry about fly cutting, but i have been known to cahnge my mind so i appreciate the education on the flycutting if i do.
just cant explain how cool those tools are

it would be even easier on a vette unlike an fbody your motor isnt half under the cowl!
Ive tossed the idea of flycutting around, but honestly my setup ended up right where I wanted it, although I would like a little more lope!

you will not be dissapointed with a low 230s cam + heads. The last thing you want is to have a mismatched combo with this huge donkey dick cam, that wont have ***** til 4500 rpms. What kind of gears do you have? Intake? you have to think of everything as a whole

if you want it done right. Get a CUSTOM GROUND CAM designed around your heads

i agree sideway. 5.3 heads flow roughly 280 with 2.02 valves. ls6 intake with ported tb and big bore maf. 17/8 headers with 23/4 straight exhaust.car weighs 3300 w driver and 3.42 gear. i think the v.2 would be most beneficial

i have to take a moment to agree that head work is easier on my c5> guess i got sp[oiled on the 5.0 stangs. swapping a cam was as easy as an oil change on an ls but the power on these motors is awesome. guess you get your moneys worth huh?
