dont quote me on this, but i'm pretty sure all LS1 f-bodies have aluminum driveshafts unless you had 2.73 gears.

Most LT1 F-bodies came with a steel driveshaft. Most LS1 F-bodies came with aluminum.

just look under the car. if the DS is spotless, its aluminum. if it has some rust on it, its steel. how's that for logic?

The aluminum ones tend to break more so over the steel. I've got my steel one hanging around for back up. I have seen several post/threads on here lately about guys snapping their aluminum DS. As far as your 2.73's go you need to ditch em' and bump it up in gear

yeah i'm getting 3.73s in my 12-bolt!!!

but as far as the Al vs. steel shafts, the steel ones tend to vibrate so badly that they take out tranny tail housings at high rpms, hence the 3.23 and 3.42 cars got aluminum. but as someone said, just take a quick peak under your car: silver looking = Al, rusty and brown = steel
