Default LS1/6 to LS2/3 Cam/Knock Harness Rant

Why in the hell do they continue to make harnesses with crossed wires? The one I got is from Casper Electronics. When I took my new 416 for a break-in drive and I got the P0343 code. Is the feedback just not reaching them. Switched the outer wires and all is well.

I agree this is a pretty pathetic issue we have to deal with. Had the same issue 2 1/2 years ago and still nothing has been done about it.

Mine was the same way 1.5 years ago. After all the issues I checked mine before install and the wires were backwards. You would think they would fix this.

on the end that connects to the crank sensor the wires are are installed wrong. Look at the colors and make sure they are the same on each end.

I have heard that the problem is actually because some year cam sensors use the wires direct and others need the outside wires crossed over, therefor is depends on which sensor you have.

We have done 3 or 4 with the same issue. It is incredible with all the advanced **** that these Companies do, They cannot fix this. We called the Vendor that the motor came from and they new about it but there was no information to change it. Fortunately the guy that runs the shop that I help out at new how to fix the problem!!!

Quite a few vendors sell them - I believe two companies that make them are katech and casper, maybe more. They go for around $60, but also come in the conversion (Ls2/3 into LS1 apps) kits.

Lesson learned-if you know your engine is set up for the swap properly, and you start your newly swapped LS2/3, and notice your tach is not working, get a p0343 code, there is a very strong chance this is the issue.

Very easy fix-just a slight headache/worry if you haven't come across this info prior to experiancing the issue.

It depends on what year you have. Some vehicle harnesses already have the A-C terminals switched, so when you plug in your cam extension harness (which switches A-C again) you've switched the terminals twice and have the problem you're experiencing. It's an easy fix. The female side of the cam extension harness has no locks so you can plug it in backwards and it fixes the problem. Caspers installs a push pin to prevent you from doing this, but it's easily removed. So, its not that Caspers is manufacturing them wrong or ignoring feedback, it's just that there is a difference in vehicles and there aren't two different versions of the harness. Since it's an easy fix flipping the connector there doesn't need to be two versions. I explain all this in our instructions that come with the kit.

Bringing this back from the abyss, would the gentlemen that work with these regularly think the harness wires might be an issue if you get the p0343 code but NEVER lose your tach?
