Maybe it's just me but you couldn't pay me to actually watch the Acadamy Awards on TV last night.... It's a big foo foo party with high paid waitresses and waiters that caught a break acting... I mean who really want's to hear an actor or actress give a long political speech after recieving a gay award... There wasn't even any half naked hot actresses walking around trying to make a fashion statement this year...PURE GARGABE I SAY!!!
Sorry just venting, does anyone else feel the same?

Had a great host, and I loved the bash on Scientology. But the guy standing up for Gays was stupid. "Just know God love you. And someday soon Gay marriage will be legal federally." I was like what? STFU. Yea, God loves us all but that doesn't stop verses in the Bible.

I watched Patton instead. :usa:
Much better use of my time than watching the yellow bellies of hollywood sit around and circle jerk each other.

I thought they were great. Ben Stiller was hilarious for those who didn't see him mocking Joaquin Phoenix. Hugh Jackman was pretty funny, the opening sequence was pretty good. The gay jokes by Sean Penn were pretty funny too, and the respect everyone showed towards passed actors like Ledger and Paul Newman was really appropriate. Some of the presenters and speeches were a little corny, but other than that, I thought it was way better than past oscars.

This pretty much sums up all award shows. The only award shows I'd ever watch were the MTV ones, and I stopped watching those long ago.

You're right, he should have just said, "you all are seriously still worried about that God/Bible BS? Relax you're not going to hell because it doesn't exist".

And I think that's fucking retarded. Seriously, if you think the Bible condemns gays to hell, then you also have to admit that slavery should still be allowed and that women should still be treated as second class citizens by the Bible's standards (and when those debates were going on people did argue those positions from scripture). The whole gay debate today is yet another example of how outdated biblical morality is.
I think some of the gay shit is really fucked up, like all the weird parades and dancing and stuff, but I have no problem with people being allowed to marry or do whatever they want with their lives, and those that want to spew this backward religious hate are going to be on the wrong side of history just like every other civil rights debate in this country.

Pissed me off because the channel that my scrolling TV guide is on happened to be the channel that they aired the awards on, so they condensed the TV guide into a very small and very confusing bar at the bottom.

How many award shows do you really need? It's the same people from tv, music, movies, the same morons on the red carpet, the same news people trying to score and interview with Brad and Angelia. What is different besides what day it is on? It's just a bunch of back patting. "Look how good we we are, look how expensive our outfits are." "Yeahhh me I'm great you suck yeaaa me"
Fuckin celebs.

I haven't watched an award show in a LLLLLLOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG time....probably a decade. They've gotten way too......what's the phrase......oh 'independent'. I mean....seriously. They award movies....hell, nominate movies that most of the general public couldn't care less about. Look at the dang box office as to what grosses what, and how long certain movies stay in theatres. None of this....it was out for a week and everyone liked it crap.
Having said that......I wouldn't want it to be a popularity contest either. It just seemed to be ALOT MORE balanced prior to 2000 or so.

Leviticus 18:22 (Whole Chapter)
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Being gay isn't right with God and their is your proof.
Slavery is wrong in the Bible; however, Jews had concubines. Like a slave but at the persons will of being their servent. Read up before you bash. The bible bashes woman as second rate people, just condems them to be leaders.

Slavery is wrong in the Bible
You Christians are so ignorant of the Bible it's laughable. I mean you think if you really believed it was the word of God you would actually read it. This is completely and utterly wrong. Not only is slavery not wrong, slave abuse is not wrong either.
Exodus 21:20-21 "If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property."
The sooner we can move beyond the decrepit moral standard of the Bible the better off society will be.
The bible bashes woman as second rate people
It sure does. How about this?
Deuteronomy 22: 28-29 "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."
So if someone rapes a woman, she has to marry him? How fucked up is that?
And what about disobedient children? Today we might offer them counseling or something, according to the Bible we should just kill them.
Read up before you bash.
Oh I've read the entire Bible. It didn't take long for me to realize what a horrid book it really is. And you can't just say that Jesus makes it better, when he endorsed all the teachings of the Law.

But seriously, can we just lay off the religious posts.

Stop starting shit. This threat was about the Academy awards and what was said there. BTW making an anti-religious statement is the equivalent of a religious one. Go take your liberal obnoxious ass back to SSU if you want to blabber your nonsense. For the record, I am not religious at all.

:eyes: I wasn't the one who started the religious stuff.
But just to make your grumpy ass happy, I'll make an OT post. :D
I was glad slumdog one, that was my fav out of the movies that I saw. And the format of the presenters was definitely better than in previous years.
Heath Ledger's moment was nice, that's really the only reason I watched it. And Ben Stiller's parody was pretty funny.

You guys know better. Take the religious debate to SSU.
Since Vendetta is not here this morning I will help him out. Infractions given and this thread is done.
