I want paint the intake but dont want it to peal
Ive been thinking of painting my ls6 intake but I don't want the intake paint to peal.I painted my valve covers with Red Dupli Color engine enamel. The paint on the valve covers sort of pealed off when washed at the car wash.I think the high pressured gun is knocking off the paint.Whats the best spray can paint I can get without the paint pealing off?Im thinking off sanding the intake with 600 grit sand paper, then primer it and after that applying the spray can.Is this method good?

I sanded it down, and painted with some metallic rattle can stuff. I was my engine bay with Simple Green and a garden hose--no problems after 6 months or so

simple, never never never use high pressure water on spray painted surfaces. Just lightly sand and clean the surface really well. Apply enough coats of high temp paint, let each coat dry thoroughly before spraying another coat. Maybe clear coat final to seal it.

I sanded mine down with 120 grit sand paper. Then I laid down a base coat and finished off with another coat of paint but decided not to clear coat it.

Great, but 120 grit?Isn't that a little to rough?I was thinking about wet sanding it 600+ grit.I'll stay away from the high pressure hose.Might go back to just using the good old lawn hose.

120 grit sounds a little rough unless you're taking out casting marks and following up with some 320 and 600. I would wet sand with 400 and follow up with some 600 if needed. VHT makes some really good high temp paint, some is good to 900 and some good to 1500 degrees.

I used regular dupli color gm bright red car paint, and Eastwood high heat clear coat for bare metal on my valvecovers. Had the stuff in the garage, and figured what the hell. Then I baked the valve covers in the oven for 20 min at 250. Looks awsome, and holding up fine. So much for high heat paint..lol, vic
