Default LS1 Lid conversion

What is involved in an LS1 lid conversion on a 95 Camaro? I heard you need to cut the radiator support? All i know I need is the lid base (radiator cover), the lid, and some sort of ducting to go from oval to circle duct. Will my stock LT1 hood close without hitting this? Any info would be sweet because I couldn't find a writeup.

I have a 4 inch cowl and without trimming anything, WITH the base, it is still hitting. I was hoping with the cowl, i could run the full setup.

anyways, here is a thread i started on it

It's going to be hard to do on a camaro. I did mine this weekend on trans am and it's almost a bolt on deal, with a ramair hood.

I have the base, slp lid, and glasstek 4 inch cowl, and it still hits, so im going to try trimming underneath my hood...

other thought is, maybe trim the core support and drop it down an inch or two to make the whole assembly fit. Idk if anyone has done this?

Several guys have done just that, but then you have issues with how the rad is going to fit as far as it will lay back some more toward the motor. I think the best setup I've seen is a guy T/AKid? who did this in conjunction with a stand up shorter radiator. Thats getting real deeply involved though as you need the new rad, fans and then all the cutting welding to go along with it, I think he then bolted the rad in as the LS1 lower piece is meant to hold a tilter rad. All these reasons are why I gave up on this idea, it seems like its only meant for guys that have Firebird and are going to use a taller Ram Air style hood to clear it. I don't think I've seen a single camaro yet using the stock rad support and any other hood clear both the stock lower and LS1 lid pieces....

Don't use the stock LS1 lid base. Just notch out the core support and make your own radiator cover out of aluminum or some other material, to help hold the filter up. I still need to make a tray like that, because right now, my filter's just being held to the lid by a couple of screws going through the lid into the filter seal, in the back. I've been very happy with the lid conversion, but it still rubs on the hood a tiny bit. Nothing to really be worried about though. As for the ducting, just get a 4" to 3.5" rubber coupler off eBay. It's only like $10 and works great.

It can be done clean without the Ls1 shroud... as stated previously contact revelationz28 since he installed the shroud with his cowl hood without issues.
you can also fabricate an alum or stainless shroud.
