Default Volts falling below 10 when in gear! Please help!

I've replaced alternator and just put a new battery in. Car still is dipping below 10 volts and almost dying when car is in gear. When car is in park the volts hold steady at 13. Any ideas?

13V on the gauge even in park is still too low IMO. Check the voltage at the battery terminals and see what you get. Is it a parts store reman alternator? Dipping below 10 is probably the alternator.

yep, it was a reman alternator. I was hoping it wasn't the alternator again, I just don't want to take that biotch off again if the problem might be something else.

Just checked my V with a meter after sitting all day (60*). 12.7 before startup, 14.6 after just starting. New battery and GM alternator last summer.

Check the red wire going to the top of the alternator (exciter wire). If it is damaged, or the connector is damaged, even inside the connector, it will not allow the alternator to output enough.

Definitely check the connector and make sure the wire is secure! That little wire is so easy to rip out. Also alot of Reman alternators suck I don't recommend them to anyone.

yeah x2 on reman alterantors sucking...most people go thru one every week or two. my voltage dips when i shift into gear too, its just because the trans draws a lot of power to do that. i think my alternator may be flirting with dath but i'll hold out until it does.

anyway, def check the exciter wire and get a delco alternator.

X3 exciter wire, if you have ever had a small Powersteering leak it will kill that connection fast
