Default Got the 383 in, and from the top!!!

I finally got the 383 in, and it was a PITA to pull the old 350 out. Took the most time to get the tranny unhooked from the block, so when I put it back in, the tranny and motor went in together. Got it back in, and only took about half an hour.

Pulling an LT1 out the top in a 4th gen is not difficult. It's really only a one person job....and even with the tranny attached

^Maybe not but it's definitely easier going in and out the bottom. That is a one person job also

Nah you don't need a lift

I usually grab it by taking a section of seat belt and tying it to the core support, on each side of the plastic radiator support. It works good. In those pics the fascia still happened to be off the car from painting the engine bay so I got it from the frame horns with a chain.

Trust me, it's way faster through the bottom. You can have the whole thing out the bottom and stripped down before you can remove half the things you need to remove to pull it out the top.

you have to pull the entire front end off your car to do it like that. the top you have to unhook all the same amount of stuff. but through the bottom you have to mess with your brake lines also. sorry ive been through this with a million people and im prolly one of a few people who think pulling from the top is way easier.

Nope, brake lines, steering, grounds, driveshaft. And you need to get it aligned after you put the k-member back in.

Ive done many through top, helped with dropping it and i will do it through the top. Works for me.

Yeah. It's been beat to death. You don't need a lift to go out the bottom. You don't even need a cherry picker, you can use two floor jacks and big jack stands. Anyone who want's to argue that pulling the motor out the top of a 4th gen is easier than dropping it out the bottom...

Not as much i beleve. Exhaust, manifold, hoses, wires etc.

My biggest thing, is i DONT want to bleed the brakes, and get an alignment.

There is no need to get an alignment. The k-member has locating dowels that will keep the k-member in the exact same position when bolted to the body every time. I don't know who started that, "you'll need an alignment" thing.
