Default 86 Elcamino LS1 Swap G body.....which oil pan has best ground clearance????

Need good ground clearance on a 1986 G-Body El Camino, the car is low and I dont want the pan hanging below the crossmember. The LH8 hangs too low, and the street and performance pan only holds 4 quarts of oil....so I wont be going that route! I have heard that the CTS-V pan might work, I know it works great in my chevelle. Anybody have a pan / motor mount combo that fits nicely and gives good ground clearance? Please post it!

Which pan? I have cut and welded a truck pan before, basically reduced it to 5 quarts and sectioned 2.5 " off the bottom if i remembered right.

notch the heater box, cut the rearmost coil mount off the pass valvecover and run an unmodified f-body pan

I´m using a CTS-V pan and 2 inch drop springs with 2 inch drop spindles.
I cant tell you how much clearance there is but my father "he´s building it" has not mentioned anything ..so far

LH8 Pan hangs way below the crossmember, so this is not a option on this car. Car sits very low, oil pan will be in danger of being smacked by debris / speed bumps / etc. I guess ill have to throw my junk LS1 block in there as a mockup and try a couple pans out. Im leaning towards cutting and shortening a truck pan....i can chop 3 inches out of it and still retain 5 quarts of oil. The LH8 pan is only about 1" shallower than the truck pan surprisingly, the way it slopes downward towards the rear and drain plug.

The cts-v pan is the perfect choice for this install. Heres a link to one already in use:

If ground clearance is your absolute #1 concern, I would follow G-Body's advice.

I used a CTS-V pan along with motor mount plates from CarShopInc which keeps the motor pretty low. The pan hangs about 3/4" - 1" below the front crossmember.

If you didnt want to mess with passenger head clearance issues you might be able to use the CTS-V pan with BRP motor mounts which would raise the motor up a bit...probably a good inch or more and that would make the CTS pan clear just fine and allow the motor to be placed forward enough for great A/C box clearance.

Just guessing but you would probably have to modify either the pan or the crossmember. I modified my crossmember for the F body pan on my chevelle. For a great fitting pan look into the Holley 302-1, 302-2.

I first used the GMPP pan, but it hung too low, so I switched to the Holley 302-2. Here's a thread about it: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...r-oil-pan.html

2004-2007 CTS V pan is what I used on my Buick, fits great, does not hang down at all.
