What is the difference in location for the x-member i'm considering doing this for my 71 ls1 conversion. Are there as many converters readily available for these trannies?

71 is a totally different you do not have to worry about a torque arms etc. You will need to modify or reposition the crossmember. Get a driveshaft made and come up with a way to control the transmission. We can set you up with a full manually shifted valve body or a After market controller which I can assist you with. PM me and we can help you.
