Default 5.3 Build up question

Hello, I have some questions regarding my 5.3. I heard that I can bore it out 5.7? What else can be done? Is there a larger crank, rods that can be used? I plan on putting this to use in my 1988 Blazer. I have all the mounts, hardware and carb, intake, fuel system and headers.

I have test fit everything, and looks good. Now Im stripping down, painting, rebuilding chassis and rewire everything! Since the engine is out, and Im unsure of the intertals. This would be the time for a rebuild! Alot of questions, and other facts left out I know. But I have basic engine knowlege in small blocks, and only have 0% with the Gen III's 5.3 max bore and stroke.I know the heads will limit my flow needs, Im interested in what you all might have to say on the stock heads?

Your help and insite, or bashing would be a big help! Thanks alot! Hope to hear back. I ask all these questions, so when I go to local Machine shop I know, or have a Idea of what Im talking about!

Justin , kansas

You can bore the 5.3 to 3.905". With the stock crank that is a 347, or 383 with a 4" crank. You can purchase a 383 stroker kit for an LS1 and use it to build the 5.3.

Bad ***! Thanks Jim! I see you've built a Blazer too! Might be picking you brain!
Ls1 383 stroke kit, Will the heads be a issue? Or can I port them? What kit would you go with? Thanks again!

or just stroke the 5.3 to a 382 (yes 382, not 383) without messing with the bore.

Sorry, you can't get 382 cu in out of a 5.3 without boring the block. The biggest you can possibly go with the stock bore would be 370 cu in (4.125" stroke 3.779 bore) Also, there are no shelf stock pistons for this combo. It would be much cheaper to go to at least 3.898" (stock LS1 bore) to make the 382 with a 4.0" stroke.

As far as power production goes... bigger bore is always better...

head wise. you can get a set of 243 ls6 heads unless you would like some stockers cnc ported or aftermarket heads. at the very top click on the tap sayin performance trucks. your ls1tech login name works there as well and you can get some good info on the 5.3
