How would you build up a 427 LS6 for boost?
I'll be getting a crate LS6 soon, and have big plans for it. I would like to bore and stroke it to 427ci and strap on some boost (possibly single or twin turbo). I would like some HP #'s somewhere around 1000. (it just sounds cool ) First of all, am I dreaming or is this possible? Second, if it is possible, how would you go about building the engine to be able to withstand that kinda power?

also forgot to mention. I'd like it to be 'pretty streetable'. I mean, it's definitly not gonna be a daily driver, so I don't really care what gas mileage it gets. But I don't want it to have to run around on 110 octane race gas constantly either, only when the boost is cranked up and running down the strip.

I know someone with a 382 stroker with a Vortech X-Trim blower. He's making 802 RWHP and 785 RWTQ. He ran 9.6 @ 149 last month with ET Streets spinning quite a bit. He does it all on 93 octane and a full weight (3625 lbs).
I wanted to put one on my ARE 436 but maybe my next project will get it.

The motor needs to be rock solid low compression, I would even go 8.5:1 or lower if you want to run a lot of boost on pump gas, if not, and you plan on running a lot of boost, keep the comp at 9:1 and run race gas or pump gas, all depending on the level of boost...

Just curious, why are you getting an LS6 crate motor just to completely change the whole thing (block included).
Buy a block that is already sleeved for 4.125 bore. Buy the crank, rods, pistons etc. Or hell, if you got enough cash, just have ARE or MTI or LPE put it together for you. LS6 crate motor is gonna be a 5k waste of cash.

It can be done.A complete 427 built to handle 20 psi would cost about $22-25,000.A turbo kit to feed it another 8k.Budget around $40,000 and you will be in the ballpark.Or you could build a 422 solid roller with a TNT direct port like I'm doing for around half of that and have a faster car.If you don't have a 12-bolt and turbo 400 already add another 5-7k.It adds up real quick trust me.

I would go with Iron block with BIG head studs and 4 inch stroke crank, big blower cam and great heads. ~409ci and the block/headstuds would handle the boost very well.
Very expensive project though.
200-300 nitrous setup would be way easier to tune and be a fraction of the cost

Re: How would you build up a 427 LS6 for boost?
You can definitely make a big motor strong enough for lots of boost and or power adder HP. I have a 415 aluminum block with 4.060 darton dry sleeves, lunati 4" crank, using Ross 8.5:1 compression pistons. It currently has 18,000 miles of trouble free operation on it, going into it's third year in car. Everything around it has broken but the motor still runs great.
I have run 12 psi of boost through it making 585/695 to the ground, I can't make any more with this set up right now. I will be making changes to my turbo set up but the motor will remain the same with just a freshen over the winter.
I would suggest you look at a thicker sleeve that will result in a slightly smaller displacement. My sleeves are the same outside diameter thickness as a 422/7 but with .040 more material on the inside. This adds more rigidity and extra strength. I like the idea of and extra margin of safety and the fact that I can hone it if need be.
ARE's 422 solid roller, nitrous motor withstood well over a 1000 HP for two seasons with no issues. The only reason that it is out now is Wade sold the SilverZ as a rolling chassis. BTW that motor is for sale.

Re: How would you build up a 427 LS6 for boost?
somebody is 'supposed' to be gettin me a LS6 crate engine for $2,500. Sounds waaaay off on price to me, but that's what the guy said. Who knows. Probably stolen or something, but oh well. I don't have deep pockets at all (I poor), so it would be a project to play with over the years. but at the prices you guys are talking, I might just buy the engine and drop it in there stock for now. If the guy isn't feeding me a line about it. and yes, Bill, I'm the same Austin.
