I spun a bearing and I've had my car in the shop to have the engine rebuilt. The machinist told my mechanic that he may not be able to grind down the journals enough and find over-sized bearings to fit. What would you guys do in my place? I don't have a lot of money, so I'm looking into a plain old stock rebuild.

If I were you, I'd start putting some cash aside because you're either going to fine a stock bottom end thats cheap and then pay for labor, or figure out a way to build a 355 or something and pay for labor for that.

Either way, there's no cheap way to pay someone to work on your car unless its a friend or family member in your driveway/garage.

if you want to do it on the cheap(er) side I'd order a full 350 rotating assemble from eagle or scat that comes balanced. or you can always order a cast crank from either company, replace/repair the most likely damaged rod and then get the RA balanced

or you could go buy a used engine from a junkyard and swap it in. i have found plenty of engines for around 650 bucks

If your block is shot then just get a donor off the classifieds here or on craigslist somewhere local to you. LT-1 or 4 blocks can be had pretty cheaply these days and then just order a 350 rotating assembly (as stated above) from Jegs or Summit. Shouldn't be too much.

or buy an actual lt1 shortblock with the stock rotating assembly which i see often for under 500 and put that together thatd be the cheapest route

If he bought the parts for $500, it'd cost $500 easy to have a competent machine shop assemble it. I say pick up the $1000 new GM-assembled LT1 short-block and be done with it in one shot!

interesting lol but itll be a bit more hes in cali thats west of the mississippi. but that is a good deal. but then hes still goin to hav to pay to hav it assembled unless he does it himself
