Default avic-z3 and the vss wiring

After looking on here for where this vss wire was so I could hook it up to my z3 I gave up after a couple of attempts at finding the correct green/wht wire behind the glove box. I hooked into soom green/wht wire but it wasnt the vss. So I too out the gauge cluster and hooked into the green/wht wire going into the connector for the gauge cluster, and BINGO found the right one! Not as hard as i thought it was going to be to get to it there. In short there are a number of green/wht wires on my 2000 ws6, and it's just as easy to tap into the one going into the guage cluster.

There's a VSS wire in your original radio harness I believe on pin 15, either way it's dark green with a white stripe. Thats how the speed compensated volume on the factory radio works.

Camaro: Yes
Firebird: No
Speed-controlled volume was only on the Camaro. That wire was only present on the Camaro Harness.

I wish my firebird had it wired that way, would have saved me the trouble. All in all, not too bad once I found it.

Sorry maybe i stated that weird. How do you get to that wire that goes into the gauge cluster? Do you remove the gauge cluster and its right there? Or do you have to get it from behind (thats what she said) the cluster mounting point? I mean, can i reach up through the cavity (thats what she said LMAO!) that the radio sits in, and access it from there? I'm going outside to try it now but i'm not the greatest when it comes to wiring and stuff i'll probably end up gettinf very very frustrated lol and storming back in here to check this thread hoping for pictures!

Sorry, I thought about taking pictures but got involved with trying to make the darn thing work and forgot to do it. I knew someone was going to ask! But it's real easy to get to, the gauge cluster bezel just pops off, then all you do is remove the four screws holding the guage cluster on, take out the cluster by giving it a little tug forward to remove it from the connected that is behind it, tilt it forward a little and lift it out over the steering wheel. The green with white strip wire is located in the bundle going into the guage cluster connector. I had to take some of the tape off to make it easier to splice into, but it works like a charm now.

You mean the mounting bracket? Its easy to make. I made a couple brackets of out the side of an old PC case I had lying around (good source of sheet metal).

Pressure Treated ALUMINUM? Huh? you pressure treat wood, electroplate steel with Zinc, or Galvanize it. Alum is already rust proof.

I saw that but I figured.... leave it be...
Maybe he meant one of those brackets to hold the floor joists when building a deck. But aren't those brackets typically galvanized steel? The wood is pressure treated though (at least it should be if you want a sturdy long lasting deck).

I dont know, the decal/bar code says pressure treated i was wondering if it meant forged or something. I dont know any better, im new to it. I figured if it was printed from the factory that due to my lack of knowledge i had just never heard of it. Ive heard or pressure treated wood.I bought it from OSH i just picked it up i just wanted some metal.

^ or i was thinking maybe someone just stuck a barcode from something else on there becuase it rang up like $3 cheaper than advertised. Oh well, its aluminum. It did the job
