Racer's Lounge - *Update* Police found my wife's car, stripped...

Hey guys. Wanted to give you an update. The police called my wife today and said they found her 2000 Honda Civic. It was in an abandoned alleyway across town completely stripped, no engine, no tranny, thats all we know as of now that is gone. I'm not sure right now if the doors are still there or the seats or what.

I have to go down to the towing yard and pay them $300 for the tow from the alley to their tow yard:bang: if I want the car! They also said they have an auction every week and they could auction the car and if they get like $1,000 bucks for it or something they will deduct the $300 and give us the rest. First thing's first I need to go down there and see the car and see if I can just throw a new engine in it or something. Maybe put an LS1 in it;).

The police said the theives wiped down the entire car but they found one finger print on a tire and want us to come down to the station to make sure its not mine or my wife's. If its not, they will run it through a data base and try to catch the people.

We are glad its over and we know what happened to it. Gives us some closure cause last night my wife and I went driving around town looking through hotel parking lots looking for it cause police said a lot of cars were being dumped in hotel parking lots and the theives would just come back everynight and take parts off the car. And we were gonna drive around and do it again tonight but not anymore.

Thanks for everyone's support and I'll let you know what I do!

Sincerely, TheBlueKnight

*Update*

Went and saw the car at the tow yard, here are the pics :( They sprayed it flat black. They took the bumpers and side skirt, hood, doors, trunk, all interior except for carpet, and dash. They didn't take the suspension though?

You called it in the last thread, saying it might be getting stripped for parts. That sucks, at least you know what happened for sure though.

I've been checking on craigslist since the car was stolen and will continue to check, they are definetly gonna try to sell the tires on it. I had just spent $500 on brand new studded snow tires a week before it was stolen, as well as $80 for a new battery, $40 on Honda manual tranny fluid cause I changed the fluid. I also had just done a spark plug change, air filter, and changed the radiator fluid one week prior to it being stolen!:barf:

maybe the guys didn't wanna be alive anymore and they tied the engine and transmission around their ankles and found some deep water to jump in with them:D fuckin' thieves:( they likely CUT all the wiring under the hood to get the parts off quickly

That just seems stupid since the police are suppouse to protect peoples property an there trying to auction. Lawsuit threatening time to me:bang:

What????

He said that the tow company will auction it if he doesn't want to pay to get the car back. If he goes down to look at it and its gutted, why would he want to pay $300 to get back a useless shell of a car? They aren't threatening him by telling him that, they are just saying it's an option if he doesn't want the car.

He didn't have physical damage or theft on the car.

Sucks man...they'll get theirs sooner or later.

Exactly. I'm going to go get finger printed in a few hours to see if the print on the tire is my wife's or mine.

TheBlueKnight

no full coverage :( probably would have got about $4500 - $5,000 if it was

I had a car stolen within an hour of seeing it last. Every time i think about it, i ponder what i would have done to the person if i caught them.

That really sucks. Why did you not have theft coverage on it though is the question. liability insurance is the beef of the payments. Fire & theft ins is an extra 10 bucks a month at the most. very dumb decision that cost you 5 g's.

youch they f-ed that ride up, that sucks man, sometimes its good to pay for the extra coverage, you could have done a 1k deductible and it probably wouldnt have cost you much more a month

I think for cars that are worth $4K or more, I'd keep theft.

Our '95 Civic was stolen but it only had 50K miles on it, so we got like $6000.

I bet that folks strip those cars and swap the engines into other cars maybe where they blew the motor or is burning oil.

We talked about getting full coverage on it a few weeks before it got stolen but never got around to it. It was dumb. :bang: Live and Learn.
