Default FLT have a tech question for ya

i picked up a cheap 99' 4l60e core to rebuild for my car. the previous owner told me it wouldnt shift outta first. it was built in 05' has 5 pinion planetarys, beast shell, billit servo and red clutches, red wideband. upon tearing it down i found some metal pieces which came from the input shaft drum retaining ring tabs. in your opinion what is the possible cause for this to happen? Thanks

Normally when I see a drum failure the first thing that comes to mind is a harsh 3rd gear shift. A few things can cause this. Excessive transmission line pressure. 3rd gear feed hole being to large. Excessive clutch clearance. 3rd accumulator being eliminated by the use of a solid billet 2nd gear servo. Pressure spikes caused by a worn pressure regulator circuit. As I mentioned many things can cause this. Good luck with your build. Vince
