Default VHT Flameproof Coating

http://www.vhtpaint.com/flameproof.html

I coated my turbo manifolds with this stuff. I did about 3-4 cans for the downpipes/manifolds all together. Now i just read a thread about heat wrap w/ sum type of insulating spray-on tar ( for lack of a better word ) SUm say its good sum say its bad as always. All this talk about moisture, and the ability of the exhaust piping holding heat, being relative to the diameter of the piping etc etc.

Any in sight would be awesome. Mostly im after sumone who has used this VHT sh*t b4... thanx

I have used the spray but nothing on top of it. It will rust overtime and fade.

I took apart my turbo kit from last yr. It was all painted in high temp, most of it faded off.

Right now all the hot parts getting sand blasted. Then im going to repaint. Then im going to wrap it in Dei header wrap, and also use the Dei silicone coating. Header wrap will hold in moisture, and cause some rust. It also will hold in heat, and help spool up.

The same stuff gets said about turbo blankets. Im gonna give it a try, and see what happens.

I put it on my APS manifolds and seems to be holding up, although they have only been on the car 2 weeks. I think it will still fade/rust over time

why not send the piping out for a jet hot coating or something similar?? then you can wrap it without worry and it'll last nearly as long as the car.

i just had mine recoated. the up pipe was jet hot coated. the down pipe was painted with high temp paint. both were wrapped. when removing the wrap the paint was gone. the exhaust was a rust color. the jet hot coated up pipe was still perfect. also this was about 12 track passes and about 50 miles on the street. get it coated.

guess this is the way to go.... I had sum kook's Lt's coated by jethot, with my N/A setup. I kinda figured with turbo's they might require sumthing more. How much for downpipes and manifolds coated? ( ball park ) thanx

I had the hotside of my turbo, and my manifolds coated in black stuff thats supposed to be good to 1700 or so.

Its still there, but its fadding in spots. Turbo's get really hot, but the best bet is definatly ceramic.

Yeah, no need to pay big bucks for Jet Hot when that same Ceramicoat process is available at any good coater/plater. The silver is good to ~1400 and the grey and black are good to ~1800. Prices are about 50-75% of what Jet Hot charges, plus you don't have to ship your stuff all the way there and back.

Just remember to protect the coating during installation because it needs to cure under heat for a couple hours of runtime before it is really scratch resistant. After that it is tough stuff.

Jim

PS I used the grey on my blower pipes to/from the FMIC if anyone wants pix of what it looks like.
