Hey Guys.

So what do you think?

Is it possible.

Im talking about a purpose built car.

Might be possible.

The car would need to be close to a 2500lb race weight.

I would guess to pull this off your going to have 25K+ in the car. It will need the best and lightest of everything.

Im talking in an F-body.
Strip it to the shell, an donly put back in whats neccesary.

One race seat
No accesries
couple gallon fuel cell
Neccesary gauges, and a homeade (light) dash thats no bigger than neccesary
Glass front end, hood, hatch
Lexan windows
TH350 with brake

A car thats sole purpose is to go as fast as humanly possible with a bolt on Lt1 in the engine bay.

Think its possible.

If you're going that far...sure it's possible.

But, why?

At what point is it not a 4th gen anymore?

Just because it 'looks' like a 4th gen and has 4th gen panels?

Honestly, removing 70% of 'the car' and replacing it with race-parts maybe get you title as 'fastest bolt-on', but it would be argued it is not much of a car anymore...

Then there is the flip side, where once you spent that much, at that point why not put just as much into a motor and shoot for 8s, hell, even 7s with that amount of cash required...

Now, stripping the car as far as possible, leaving only a seat and a minimal dash, even pulling everything else you can think of and running only bolt-ons on a built (B&B) 350 'stock' config motor with a stock tranny and a 10-bolt rear would get you all the respect of a 'true' bolt-on car in every way without any room for someone to argue it wasn't a true bolt-on car... Now with that you might now hit 10s, hell, maybe only high 11s... Don't know...

Better question is, what are you really looking to do??? Fastest bolt-on title?

Its something Id liek to do but not something I plan on doing, atleast anytime soon.

Just thought if you guys thoughtd it be possible.

And it woudlnt be just the fastest bolt on car, itd still be a 10 sec car that would surprise the hell out of a bunch of people.

Just wondering how far a bolt on Lt1 and an f-body coudl take you.

LS1 car... Ya no problem
LT1 car... The money that would have to be spent would not justify it. But ya i am gonna say it might could possibly be done...

To 95 TA - The Beast, Nothin he said made it less of a fourth gen, and not even close to less of a car Respect is when his little 275hp stock motored LT1 car goes and wips up on a 375hp heads/cam LT1. Here is something that joelster said in reply to someone in one of my threads:

You think it's that easy to strip an f-bod? Anyone can get one down to around 3200 (with driver). The "average" f-bod owner could strip everything out of an f-bod, toss on all of the bolt-ons they see in the catalogs and go out and rip a 12.40, and scratch their head wondering why. Their is a lot of skill and fabrication needed to get that extra second to get that record. The current record stands at 11.48.

What does your car run?

I have lots of respect for ANY bolt-on car that is in the 11's. I don't care if it sees a lot of street action. I won't give it any more respect if you drive it to church on Sunday and do your grocery shopping with it either. All I care about is the numbers.
Like he said the is a lot of skill required to get that extra last second from 12.40 to 11.40. Now imagine trying to get an extra half second after that. If done, that is worth tons of respect on its own!

To the OP, start savin up! I would do it if i won the lotto or something but cant justify spending all my money to get to that point(even if i had it). Ya im going to try and beat the 11.48 but that extra half second you are looking to get is extremely expensive! If you get serious about this ill tell you what it will take, just let me know.

Its something Ive thought about for a long time but I seriously doubt Ill do it anytime soon.

Ive got a money pit with the 97 already and Im to attached to it to tear it up.

Id buy a cheap car and immediately tear into it before I got attached, and only put it what was absolutely neccesary and hell even if I never hit the mark, Ive got most of the parts to make a pretty bad *** stock bottom end car.

OK let me put in my .02, sure with a purpose built car, and a lot of money, hell I think it is possible, I got to the 11.5's on a tight budget bolt-on only LT1. I have mine stripped down pretty well, and can take probably take another 100-150 (200-250ish if I switched to lexan and fiberglass stuff) out if I really wanted to go that route, for me that includes (tubular K-member, cutting off some metal like the frame horns, and misc other high dollar weight reduction stuff like drag brakes and etc.) but remember once you get past 11.50 you need to start adding weight back in for safety equiptment. This year I am stepping away from the bolt-ons because I got to the point of needing a bar so I decided to go all out for a 10pt cage because I know I will be adding more power later. So I am swapping heads and adding a cam this season to hopefully get it to 11.0's with the added weight of the cage...

That would be sick and expensive.. I personally have more respect for the cars that are factory optioned, still look sexy, can go get groceries, and can still go to the track and run 10's or 11's.. thats my cup of tea.

However, to each is one's own. Good luck!

is nitrous considered a bolt on?? because it is not an internal upgrade? Because if so i would think a stock motored LT-1 could go 10.50 with the right supporting modifications.

If I can't find a good deal on a cam soon, I'll let ya know how a big stall, 4 link, big tire, ~2200-2300lb car will do with bolt ons in a few months.

its possible with a 2500 or 2600 raceweight. and a large budget. I would just do heads and cam.
