Default fuel guage does'nt work

i have a 98 trans am and the fuel guage is stuck on empty. is there a way to test the gauge cluster, level sender to determine what the problem is?

This is for the earlier cars, not sure if the wiring is the same colors - I know the OHM values are different. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#fuel_gauge I've had two friends that had to replace their sending units on LS1's, both indicated too much fuel and took forever to start dropping. Don't know if this helps or not, worth taking a look at the connector/wiring though.

The same thing happened to me I got a new cluster from my local GM dealership i know they can still get them. They have to store the miles in a computer they have or something like that they said, but im not sure how much they go for luckily my car still is under warranty

If you are thinking about getting a new cluster I would search places like craigslist before going to the dealership. And that mileage transfer thing costs like 100 bucks and they say it takes all day, at least for a truck I was going to have it done on.

I got the cluster from a guy on craigslist for 20 dollars, didnt even check what the dealership wanted bc I was sure that it was way more.

tested the fuel level sender and it reads 40 ohms empty and 270 ohms full. should read 2-4 ohms empty and 88-95 ohms full. im thinking the sender is bad. anyone else think this?

well unfortunatly the fuel pump died this weekend. so replaced the pump and sender. the guage still does'nt work so it has to be the cluster.
