Get the VIN# and call SLP. They'll tell you if they modified it. All SS's were Z28's modified by SLP. There's also codes on the door you can look for, although I don't know them off hand. I'm sure someone will chime in on the exact codes.

I am new to the LS1 f body world and looking to get into a camaro or firebird. I was wondering what are the differences between the Z28 and the SS. is it the cam or something internal or is it bolt on and tuning?

Basically appearance/wheels. The engines are the same.

first of all, all SS camaro's started out at Z28 from the factory
some of the differences however of the 1999 SS and the Z28 are that the SS has a true Ram air hood a kick ass spoiler, better suspension, 17 by 9.5 inch rims as oposed to 16 by 8 inch on the Z28 everything else i believe is the same both have the LS1 with the 241 casting heads.
the SS had the same stuff done to it as the Fire Hawk did the WS6 want to ASC and got pretty much the same stuff but not exactly
however the 2001-2001 SS Camaro's had a LS6 intake manifold and some had a LS6 block which is pretty much the same thing except for how the cooling lines are run. they still had the same Cam and the 241 casting heads. the only thing that added power is the LS6 intake manifold
here is a link about how to tell the difference on the LS6 block and the LS1 block but again there is not power change between the two blocks the only thing that changed power was the intake manifold but that was only on 2001-2002 F-bodies

An SS is a Z28 with SS stickers, hood, rear spoiler, 17" wheels, some suspension stuff is different on an SS. And with an SS you had the option of ordering additional SLP content that you could not get with a Z28.
Here are my RPO code stickers. The SS has no rear defrost, the Z28 has no CD changer. Otherwise they're damn near the same car. The SS has an LS6 block :pimp: The FE4 is a suspension upgrade over the Z28's FE2, but the SS has no additional SLP content.
exactly but not all SS had a LS6 block

Did you really just block out some of your VIN?

Whats your point, you just come on here to post some useless fucking bullshit.
Tell me what your point is, just being a dickhead right, thats it. Why?
Yes I blocked my VIN. Does that bother you? Is that a big deal?
Please tell me what your fucking problem is with that.
Fuck your chill pill bull shit.
Quit acting like a fucking retard. I have a problem with people who jump in posts to act like retards. I have a problem with people who act like retards in general.
Find something else to do.
It's not a big deal to me but I guess it is to you. I just find it funny that you blocked out part of your VIN like somebody was going to assume you cars identity. Didn't mean to get your thong in a bunch
Are you actually posing with your car by a nextel cup trailer. :mullet:
Um yeah actually but I don't watch it. I couldn't tell you who drives what car. My father works for Nascar and that was taken in Charlotte when I was coming through on my way from Florida back to NY when I bought the car so I met him in the garage area and took a few pics.

It's still up for debate...some people say the SS scooped hood is good for some ponies, some say it isn't, some says you dont get enough air pressure until 115mph or so.
As for checking to see if it's a real SS....the top sticker in drivers side doorjam will have the RPO code "WU8" on it...
On the sticker below that last one I mentioned (the one with your cars weight and tire size) it will say you have 17" tires if it's a true SS or 16" if it's a Z-28.
