is this amp too big
i'm thinking of trading a guy for an amp. i currently have a DUB 2502 (it sucks, i know) powering two 10" solo baric 4 ohms (the old school round ones). i could get an alpine 1000 or an m450. both are mono amps. would the 1000 be overkill and/or would the 450 watt be worth the upgrade?

Alpine amps are (mostly) fine. I would say that their speakers/subwoofers a crap, though the guy has Kicker which are crap, too.
I have a JL 500/5, though, and the thing is awesome. I support people buying cheaper amps (as long as it's not like Pyramid/Pyle/Boss/Legacy cheap!) but I definitely don't regret buying my JL. I had 2 Pioneer amps die before this ROCK SOLID JL one.
Some good for the money reasonably cheap amps: Kenwood, Phoenix Gold, Hifonics, Directed (avoid the class A/B ones, and that goes for all brands - you want class D for subwoofers only. Hifonics still makes lots of A/B subwoofer amps.)
Alpine isn't generally all that cheap, so I don't generally recommend them, but their amps are at least not crap. Or at least the subwoofer amps aren't. Their ICEPower amps had problems with transistors blowing last I heard.
