Default What lt1 clutch should I go with?

I've got a 96 Z28 M6 that will need a new clutch soon. Any advice what is the best in performance, durability, driveability, and value for daily driver who is just beginning the modification process?

I love my Ram HDX and I just purchased a Ram HD from Scoggin Dickey. Call up Jesse at Scoggin Dickey because they are having a sale right now on Ram.

Ram is good for the money, so is spec. I run a spec stage 3 and it is almost smooth like the stocker. It has a lil more peddle pressure and grabs a bit more on let out. Overall has been a great clutch for 8k mi now.

You could try a OEM clutch kit and replace the stock clutch disk with a McLeod single street/strip clutch disk.

Get the A4 kind. M6's are fun to drive, but a stalled A4 takes the win almost every time at the track.

I have this clutch, drives smoother than stock and good holding power for cammed/bolton cars.

Easy guys, I said the M6s are fun to drive. Not just really a fast way to go for most.

I have the HDX right now, I will switch to the HD when I am ready for the bottle down the road. I am very happy with the HDX.

With the prices of these going up & up, your better off just spending the 400+ on a Ram kit or others, the OEMs are at around 220.00 now, then you'll be out another 180.00-200.00 for a good street/strip disc.

When a 4L60 can hold 600ft/lbs+ in stock form and can do anything well besides going in a straight line, please come back and let us know

OP, we had a Zoom clutch on an LT1 in the shop the past couple weeks, the guy said he was really happy with it and it looked like a really nice unit. It was very smooth and driveable for a puck style clutch. I don't know how good they are, but might be worth checking out at least.

FWIW that is what I run. I bought it and the RAM from Summit. Compared them side by side...closed the box on the RAM and sent it back.

The differences on LT1 clutches is in the disc material and construction. Pressure plates are either Valeo (OEM) or clones.

With a stock set up...a "replacement" clutch from auto parts store will be fine and the cheapest route.

1st two pics = ZOOM, next 2 RAM

note the disc construction...ZOOM is a 1 piece, RAM has fingers connecting outer disc with rivits.

the ZOOM is about $50 more than the RAM

Nice comparison. However, the Zoom is Kevlar and the Ram is organic, hence the difference between the Ram having rivets and the Zoom being one piece. But I'd side with you in saying the Zoom disc is probably the stronger of the two.

What flywheel did you use?? The one we had in the shop had a very thick aluminum one, he said it came with the Zoom clutch...
