Default Electric Water Pump

Sorry if this topics been beat to death but search isn't working for me.

Im thinking about deleting my power steering and ac, and getting a alternator relocation brakcet. Now this would cause me to have to run a electric water pump.

So what are the pros and cons of running one? Whats a good brand to purchase?

Thanks guys.

No, that shouldn't force you to use an EWP, but why not use one? It will only give you more hp by reducing rotational mass. Meziere is a popular.

Oh, well the set-ups i've seen have all been using EWP's.
But yea, i'm gonna go ahead and get one.

Just wondering if anyone had anything bad to say about them.

Default O.K. That is a different question

The brands commonly used are Meziere (most expensive) CSR, Summit and Jegs.
Summit and Jegs are clearly repackaged, most likely CSRs. Summit does sell a full kit, pump, relay, fuze, wiring, etc.
The Mezieres come in 2 speeds, 43 and 55 (I believe that is in GPH, you would have to check.)

The good:
Once installed, very easy to replace. It sits right up front with 6 small bolt, takes about 15 minutes. Just an FYI, if you ever encounter the situation.
It stops the number on cause for Opti failure. Almost every LT1 pump I ever saw fail had the rear seal/bearing go out. This looses a deluge of coolant on top of the already sensitive Opti.

The bad:
It runs at a constant rate. The same a idle as at 150 mph (No, officer, I have NEVER driven that fast.hehe)
It takes some good wiring skills to do it correctly. You have to connect to the alternator or battery, install the fuze block, the relay, the on/off wire, and then to the pump itself.
The worst for me was beating out the old shaft. I used a press at work and it was a hassle. But I am sure others have easier methods.

Many claim h/p gains, and it makes sense. But, for me, the point was moot. I hate pulling Optis.

The reason why is because anyone who is going through the hasle of deleting their AC and power steering, relocating the alt, and adding a manual rack, is serious about freeing up horsepower, so an EWP fits the bill.

Damn, nevermind. I forgot about the whole manual rack thing. Is there anyone that sell a relocation kit that keeps the PS?

And thanks koolaid kid!
And as far as wiring goes, do they give you any kind of instruction on how to wire it up?

You are welcome. As you can tell, many have their favorites. I have a Meziere myself.
My Painless kit came with what I consider to be a basic wiring diagram. I have found several that include installing L.E.D.s to let you know if it is running and if it is not running. Unfortunately, I could not find any at this time.

My buddy deleted his power steering and just keep the rack in place. It was a little difficult to move when stopped or going very slow, but once it got moving, it wasn't bad at all.

Just swap to a manual rack as well. Plug your power until you have the money to swap.
