Default New GTO Member

Hi Everyone,

Looking for parts for my LS1 GTO I stumbled on this forum. I bought my car new in Sept '04 for like $22K, If I remember right I got $3,500 rebate, $~$3,500 discount from dealer and $3,900 GM card dollars plus 2.9% financing. After the test drive and running the numbers I was hooked (good thing we didn't get the Vibe GT we also test drove that day!).

Anyway I made a deal with my wife, no mods until warranty runs out. I've done a few things last summer but really excited to add a cam and the heads I bought last summer. I rebuilt my first engine at 20years old, a 400ci small block in a 1980 Z-28 (I wish I still had that car). Love to do a stroker next year and a turbo maybe the year after (A guy can dream right?).

Also worth noting I have a coworker with an 05 WRX Sti that I have to beat when we go to the drag strip as soon as Wisconsin weather allows. He tells me he runs low 13s which should be easy to beat, right?

I look forward to the journey.

Dave

Default Can I beat an 05 WRX Sti?

Any thoughts on if I have enought planned to beat my co worker? I haven't been to the strip in several years.

Anybody run at Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, WI?

Do I need to invest a bit in the suspension? Up till now I have only engine mods planned (see sig). Also looking for a shop receommendation to tune, doesn't seem to be any options in Milwaukee.

Right now I'm leaning toward the COMP XR265HR because of driveability but also considered the Voodoo 212/218 0.531/0.531 113 lobe seperation.

Goat looks great ...Love the wheels. That cam though is very small and going a head/cam route with that would be a waste imo. There are tons of cams out there that put out great power and keep great driveability. Look into the tr224, 228r, or even get a custom cam made. I have a custom 226/228 on 114lsa cam in my car and drive it everyday.

Welcome!

In terms of your question regarding your co worker, with just exhaust and a Predator tune, you will have your hands full. Your launch will have to be perfect to beat him, and even then it will be close.

look into tsp cams also, they make great power and have great drivability...ive seen bolt on m6's with stock heads make near 400hp with a TSP MS4 cam

If you can drive/hookup owning a low 13s wrx should be no problem for a H/C goat..invest in some good tires and tear him up

Not a big fan of the wheels but thats just my opinion...good luck and enjoy the car!

Are you referring to beating your co worker with the heads/cam or on your current setup? With the heads/cam, you would have no problem.

+1 on definitely looking into a bigger cam.

from my experience with my goat suspension would be my first investment. Something along the lines of a pedders kit and def look in to a bigger cam, i have a torquer v2 and i drive it everyday with no problems

Default New priority; find a bigger cam

Yes, I was planning to install all of it prior to our first trip to the strip.

I always had it in my mind that I would start off small on the cam as I could always go up but I'm hearing to start bigger and I probably won't want to cam down.

Head and Cam gasket/bolt set along with new double roller timing gear came today. Last big items on my list are pushrods, oil pump and cam.

Thanks for the support and recommendations guys, I am so looking forward to another 75+rwhp not to mention a victory over my co-worker and his WRX.

Tires for my stock rims and drag bags may be next on the list as well.

Default Went with TR224

Ordered the TR224 today, 10% off all cams at their web site today. Thanks again guys.

Went with the 114 LSA to help with emissions and WAF.

Good job on upping the cam

Nice Goat

With heads and cam... you shouldn't really have a problem in my opinion.

Stick to suspension though. Remember, power is nothing if you can't get it to the ground.

Note worthy recommendations: Definitely get drag bags and DR's
Maybe some 3.90 or shorter gears? (Hopefully you didn't buy an LS2 for gas mileage)

224 114lsa should be fine for a DD

Make sure you also get an awesome dyno tune

Default Thanks for the warm welcome

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I'll be honest I wondered over to the 2010 Camaro part of the forum and having thoughts of selling what I can now and and buying one of those beautiful new Camaros.

A little bit of warmer weather and a few more purchases and I'll be ready to go. I'll update this post along the way if you guys are interested.
