Ok before i get bashed for this, i tried the search and nothing came up.

My car started making the infamous tick noise but when the car gets warm its still doing it. I changed my oil from Mobil 1 to Penzoil Platinum. When i put the penzoil in the tick got worse. I'm bout to go to Royal Purple, maybe it will take care of the tick?? I don't know what to do but its bothering me, any suggestions would help. I don't feel like taking the valves off but if i gotta do it, im gonna do it. Would seafoaming my car help? Thank you

Nothing helps, save your money on the oil, it won't help either.
My lifters were replaced under warranty at 25,000 miles and it made no difference, when I took it back to the dealer a few days later the same noise was now considered normal.

The car now has 53,000 on it and the noise never changed.

Your car drives fine, no problems?

I think it's normal, my curent T/A and the previous one did the same thing. I also replaced the lifters and it was still the same..

Through all the research I've done its normal. Mine does it and so does my brother's 2001. I think if you have the ticking even after it warms up you may wanna check it out. I don't think Seafoam will help the tick but may be good overall for the maintenance of the engine.

Remember, never try to cover up a problem with engine oil, like using a thicker oil because it stopped the noise or leak. It usually just puts a band aid on a problem thats gonna get worse. But like I said, if its just ticking when it warms up its most likely ok. Mine, my brother's and many others do the same thing.

Yes, it's worked fine. I've run it hard, easy, etc.

People also confuse this noise with piston slap. My '01 has piston slap and it's a totally different noise that does go away when it warmes up.

My '02 (the one that had the lifters replaced) I've driven for 20 hours straight for just gas and food stops and the noise was always there.

mine makes that noise loud. but when it warms up, the noise almost goes away to the point where you have to put your ear to the hood.

Every LS1 I've ever seen has lifter tick. It used to annoy me but now I don't even hear it anymore.
