trans temps what is a good trans temp to have-i put about 100 miles on my 4l80e today, the compushift display has a temp gauge on it, i was in the 155-165 range most of the time-i have my cooler mounted under the front of the car, but angled so it catches good air-the trans was working flawless, pretty cool to cruise at 65 mph, only see 2k on the tach
what would be a high limit to the temp, like on a hot day, slow moving

I have a 1998 4L80E in my silverado dually. most I've seen so far was 240 fully loaded and towing my SS on a trailer driving over small hills/mountains. It only got that hot because traffic wouldn't allow enough speed for the converter to apply lock up.
As long as I can keep the converter locked it runs around 170 empty or fully loaded.
It's got a 10x15 aluminum tube and fin cooler. When I put a new radiator in I connected the radiator cooler, it didn't change the temps at all.

Mine is in the line out to the cooler. I want to read the hottest readable temp, not average pan temp.
For my car, the sensor in the same line, the gauge reads +/-5 degrees of the factory trans temp sensor as read with HP Tuners.
The 4L80E will drop temp up to 80 degrees in less than two minutes when the tcc applies.
Doesn't seem to work the same on the 4L60E.

On my truck with 3/8" steel line I used a tee with compression fitting adapters and put the guage sender in it too.
With my car I also used a tee but since I spliced it into a rubber hose I soldered a ground wire to it first. I also use oversize tee fittings and a reducer bushing so the temp sensor touches fluid but doesn't restrict flow.
