Default Am I the first person to go from a T56 to a 4L80E?

Am I the first person to go from a T56 to a 4L80E using the stock computer? I am about halfway done with the swap. I will post tips as I go along, as most of the rest of it is covered.

I was supplied the FIRST T56-4L80E harness conversion by LSxTune.com.

I was told I was going to get directions 2 weeks ago (NOT Frost's fault)

Its not that hard to figure out though. The PCM end of the harness was all labeled. The ISS harness was also labeled, but wrong. These need to go into C2 (Blue) pins 22 and 23 (NOT 20 and 21, as these are the VSS). They may have done that to use the factory VSS for the ISS, and use the new one for the VSS, since it is longer.

So far other than the mis-labeling, everything is great. Re-wiring the PCM was SUPER easy.

While I was at the PCM, I removed/moved some of the 6speed wiring:

C2-44 (reverse lockout) I moved this to C1-79 so I can use the Performance Shift tables

C1-32 to C1-33 (Was Clutch Pedal Position, now TCC brake sensor) I will move this wire under the dash. It needs to see 12V until the pedal is pushed. I will see if I can come up with the stock pigtail.

Edit: its the same pigtail, just missing 2 wires. I robbed 2 pins off of the clutch switch.

C1-79 to C1-34 (Was CAGS, now it is the Park/Neutral Position, as 3-2 solenoid is not needed in the 4L80E). This needs to be grounded in Park and Neutral (I will use a Relay when the Neutral Safety Switch gets grounded).

I will take pictures tomorrow when it's daylight.

Still to do:
1. Move Neutral Safety Switch from the clutch to the Shifter.
2. Wire up the Relay for the PNP switch.
3. Make plate and mount shifter.
4. Install Transmission (Converter is supposed to be here Monday)

I am interested in this T56 to $l80e harness... I am in the process of doing the same on my GTO and was all set to go stand alone, but maybe this is an option? Basically install the harness and flash your PCM?

I'm not sure you can do it on a GTO. Mine is a 2000 F body. But yeah, basically repin the PCM and flash a 4L80 tune.

GTO does not work with PCM, also going from T56 to 4L80 in mine and must do stand alone or FMVB. No other vehicle uses the 1mb O.S. that the GTO uses..... Sucks I know!!!!! FMVB for me.

Are you absolutely certain it cannot be done in an '04 GTO? Just curious, I don't know about the '04s either. I do know that going from a t56 to 4l60e has been done in the '04GTO.

The 05-06 GTOs are a different story. I don't think anyone's done the M6 to A4 swap using stock electronics to control the trans in the 05-06 series. I'm working on that now. I think going to a 4L80E on the 05-06 would be possible too, by loading the TCM with code from an HD truck or VAN with the 4L80 and T42 TCM. That might be in my future if the 4l65 craps out. For now, I just want to tackle to t56 to 4l65e swap.

Finished the wiring and all of the inside work....just 2 bellhousing bolts left, the converter bolts, and take care of the cooler.

Car is running!!
Although, I have a little work left to do still.

The lever arm on the selector shaft that comes out of the transmission needs to be modified. Apparently B&M makes them a little loose, and after just a few shifts, it has slop in it and isn't perfectly in each gear any longer. It causes it to throw a P1810 code.

I need to double check my wiring. My cruise doesn't work and my TCC doesn't unlock when I press on the brakes.

My PNP signal isn't working either. I haven't tried the performance mode switch yet.

BTW it doesn't hook up below 40mph anymore (it did with the T56).......

Be following this closely as well. Am doing same swap hopefully in a few months. Been collecting things..have yank py3400e stall, flexplate from speed inc. lokar dispstick. Haver hp tuners already ,sticking with stock auto shifter which still have to buy and got auto console piece already. Got b and m trans cooler. Got bmr crossmember with torque arm relocation of course.

So think pretty much good to go. Was waiting on the harness as it would save getting m6 to 4l60 and then 4l60 to 4l80e. A bit confused on some of the stuff you are talking about likely have some more questions soon for you.

No problem. BTW no weird vibrations from a poly torque arm mount. I bought a new stock Tranny mount. Wiring the PCM was the easiest part of the whole swap. I bought a M6-4L80E harness conversion from lsxtune. It was pretty self explanatory, ~15 pins go into the PCM, and run them down to the Tranny. 1 more wire needs 12V, and the tranny is done. Honestly now I'm not sure if I even needed to wire up the TCC unlock and PNP. The TCC automatically unlocks when you go to 0% throttle, and the PNP (Park/Neutral Position switch located on the shifter) switch isn't really required either.

Currently the only pressing issue is I keep getting a P1810 code, and I think its either my PNP switch acting screwy, or the crappy bracket from B&M on the shift selector arm.

A good friend of mine did the swap from a t56 to a built 4l80e on his turboed Camaro. The shop that built the car used a prototype AEM to tune the car.

That's cool. No-one seems to have used the stock PCM though (that I can find).

You can use the stock pcm you need hptuners to blend a file with a truck , it can be done by sending file to hptuners you can't blend the file on your own.
There have been lots of threads of this swap in this section and I read most all of them. Some guys of course go to full manual valve body as option. I want mine to function normally. I have hptuners already.

No, I sent the email to support@hptuners.com. Be sure and do that well before your swap. Mine took a little over a week.

I wouldn't take my 6speed back now that I have driven a stalled 4L80E, and it still has the stock cam in it (for now )
