Default Cam "experts", what would you......

suggest for my daily driven A4,
All bolt on's, headers,ory,borla,fipk,tci 3200,342 gears,custom tune.
Nothing too radical, just something to "give it a kick" & still run efficiently.
TIA, Matt........

Default Re: Cam

IMO, there are two kinds of cams, all out (G5X2, TR 236/230, MMT M2, MTI X1, basically anything 230* and larger duration). Then there are the "sleeper" cams. (Thunder Racing 215/220 115, MTI 224/220 116). IMO, if you are going to add a cam, either make it radical so you get maximum HP, or make it a sleeper, so that it drives and idles like stock.

I would personally run one of the "sleeper" cams listed above, you could get to 360+ with some boltons (A4), and sound/idle like stock. IMO, if you go with a 224* or larger cam, your car will sound like it has a cam, and if its gonna sound like you have a cam, might as well have a cam .

Good luck, Shawn

Thanks Shawn. Guess that's what i need. someone to tell me where the "rubber hit's the road" so to speak.

360+ sounds great to me! More like 385 so i can keep up with the 01 Z06's
thanks again for the advice.

Maybe a 224/224 XE-R on a 114-115 LSA with a very quiet dual/dual would be the ticket.

My 224 XE-R on a 113 LSA is quieter at idle (when warm) than my wifes Z28 with a loud cat-back is.

Otherwise, TR224 on 114 LSA

I agree - on a .565 lift or so. Comp Cam's can set you up fine.

That's true, but I would add one more category: biggest cam that will pass emissions. This cam will be bigger than sleeper cams, and will lope slightly, but be less aggressive that "all-out" cams.

An example is the TR224/114lsa. This cam has repeatedly passed California sniffer tests, but by no means is a sleeper cam.
