Default Springs for 1.6 RRs & stock cam??

Well i had some howard springs lined out for the cc503, but they are on back-order, & now that i've run the N2o, i'm just thinking of maybe installing the 1.6 RRs/springs/pushrods & putting the cam change on hold, Now will i be good to go with the LT4 springs & 1.6 RRs on the "stock" cam? If so, who has them for the best price?

I would personaly go with the pac 1218s or the crane springs. becasue if you plan on doing a cam in the futer you will allready have some good springs in place. I know that lloyd elliot can hook you up with spring, retainers and locks for 175 to your door.

Yes he can, & he recammended the Howard springs for my app., but they have been on back order for over a month from his supplier, the next spring in that same spec. is 50.00 more. Maybe i should just spend the extra, it just sucks, everytime i try & save a few bucks, i get screwed .lol.

LT4 Springs are nothing special, they are a tad better (If any) over stock..

I would do the LT4s rather than wear out more expensive aftermarket springs before you even have the cam upgrade done.

Howards Cams/Competition Products is just 30 minutes away from me, bought a few things there. Website is not as friendly as Summit or the like but certainly works.

I'd get some Comp 918's or PAC 1218's.

Thats kind-of what i'm thinking, i know the LT4s are better then the stockers, & much better then stockers with 160K on them, plus there cheap enough.

Oh, you are using the stock cam...you should be good with LT4 springs. I thought you were using the LT4 hot cam and 1.6 rr's, my bad.

If you are planning to change out springs when you install a cam, then yes I would use the LT4 springs for now. Like 96 says, and they are cheap...

Default Springs

If you want the best spring for your buck, and will work great with cc503,if you are adding latter, the isky 235-d is the best drop in spring $100,just buy new locks 2nd choice erson /pbm #3200($60),about the same as the isky or howards spring.I have a friend running the 3200s with a solid roller with .590 +lift(race car) spinning 6800 rpms,he has them at 1.80.

the isky 235-d are not a direct drop in. the stock locators dont fit since the 235-d's have a dampening spring inside that hits. the howard 98213's are a drop in spring

I'm using the Crane 10308 dual spring kit w/ my CC503. They are a direct drop in and use the stock retainers. The kit comes with shims, locks and retainers. They can be found for cheap too.

why would you go to the trouble of doing the springs and whatnot but not the cam? cam is like 300 bucks?

Cause you have to factor in the cost of gaskets, fluids, and cam. And the time it takes to remove the intake and cam. With just a cam swap, all you have to do is just remove the valve covers. With your logic, it would be better stated that he should install some quality springs that will last and handle a future cam upgrade so that he wouldn't have to swap springs twice.

well what im saying is if you're going to go that deep, you should just do it all at once.

I understand what you are saying. I was just trying to say that a spring swap only only like a fifth of the work of a full cam swap.

Thanks, i looked into the Isky's 235-d, i can get them for 103.00, if they are indeed a drop in spring, i'll go that route incase i get a hair up my azz & install the cam sooner, i already have the cc503, got a good one on the cheap from a member, the main reason for not going through all of it right now is, i'm running the N2o, so i don't want to push too much HP through the bottom end with its mileage, i'de be around 475 with a 125 shot, & i'm having fun with just the Nitrous right now, i was all hyped up on changing the cam untill i ran the N2o, now i'm just going to lay low on it untill i get bored with the bottle, easier said then done lol, & changing springs/rockers/pushrods is MUCH easier & less time consumeing then changing the cam.
