Default Cam + parts too much $ so I am upping the shot

Man, when you add up the cost of the cam/ springs/ gaskets etc it comes to quite the expense for a gain of 35-55 rwhp.
Since I already have a Zex wet kit, I am just going to up the shot.
My car is a bolt on only car, lid, lt's, and a cb.
No tune as of yet.
I should be able to up the shot to the 125 jets, [ It will be tuned of course]
shouldn't I ?
Since Zex hp is rated at the flywheel the stock fuel pump should be fine, if I am not mistaken.
With the mods listed I ran a 12.02 flat at 115 mph, so with the tune and the xtra 50 fwhp I should be well into the elevens for sure.
Opinions or advice welcomed.

Hard to justify other mods when more hp is a jet change away. Which kit part number do you have?

Why not put a 255 pump in the tank? Its cheap insurance.

Zex rates their kits at the flywheel, so I should be plenty safe with the 125 jets.
LT's c/b and a lid are my only mods.

yea your probably looking at spending around 1k or a lil more on a cam kit unless you find good deals on some used stuff. You can gain more than what you quoted for hp with just a cam though. Wait till you run into a cammed car running the same size or larger shot than you . Theres plenty of local guys here that run a 150 shot with just bolt on, stock pump and injectors still and havent had any problems.

That might be ok for someone who has the funds to rebuild the motor, but for this gentlemen who cant get a cam kit I dont think this advice is wise. His car would be down for quite sometime because of the lack of funds to rebuild it. Then again hes taking that risk by spraying it in the first place right? Btw i did pick up on the little bit of sarcasm you had

Technically 125 dhould be fine. Putting a fuel pressure gauge on the car would be cheap insurance. If the car has not had any tcomputer tuning you should not need to pull timming either. The stock bottom end will support 150 and you can get there with the Zex kit but you need to upgrade the fuel system.

I do have the cash for the cam, but I think I'll just play with the gas for now, and install the cam later.
I have a GM hotcam on the shelf and when I went to napa to get the parts needed for the install and they started ringing everything up, it occured to me that I still had a lot of flex left in my Zex system.
I have only used the 75 shot jets thus far, so it didn't make much sense to me to do the cam now while I still have 50 more hp that I can get with a jet change.

You pass off 50whp as if it's nothing. I would be appreciative of 50fwhp. A simple camswap is cheap, especially with this site-You can literally chop your build budget in half. You could find a nitrous friendly cam and not only gain hp from the increased lift, but from maximizing the efficiency of the nitrous itself.

many people(including me) run a 150hp shot on a stock bottom and fuel pump, but i wouldn't run on the stock pump for too long.

Didn't mean to come across that way.
More along the lines that I can get that xtra 50 hp right now w/a simple jet change vs $150.00 for parts to get about the same amount, [ timing chain/gears, gaskets, crank bolt] you get the idea.

Why do you want to stick with the hotcam so bad?

I don't like my Hotcam (except for the nice idle, it does have that) much at all. Putting together a new cam setup so I can get rid of it asap!
