I have a 5.3 from a 1999 z71 in my 87 camaro. I swapped the cam to a 222/222 Lunati and put some comp 918's on it. I don't have a vacuum reserve canister on it. Do I need it and if not, does anyone have an idea of why my car would die like this.

Perhpaps elementary, but.. do you have constant power to the computer? If you had keyed power to the computer it would act this way...

Checked all power and grounds all are correct. Always good to start there.

is it tuned?

Had a mail order tune done. I know I need to get it done locally but I wouldn't think it would have that great of an effect.

Any other ideas?

I'll put 5 bucks on it being that your 12volt orange which always supplys power to the PCM is on a switched circuit. It needs 12 volts all the time.

I go through this every time my car goes through tech and they hit the battery cut off LOL. It was a pain to run a wire all the way to the trunk. So I deal with it lol.

took it by autozone and got them to scan it. Everything was clear.

I've checked this a couple times. That's what I kept thinking. give me a list of pins that should be hot all time and a list that should be keyed. I will check this again and see.

Make sure your battery and alternator are in good working order, check to make sure your +12v lead to the PCM is not going to the Switch Ign switch, it should be connected directly to a +12volt battery source.

else maybe your PCM is bad.

battery and alternator is good reading 14 V on my gauge and never has a prob starting. and that's with the battery in the back. If the pcm is bad would it still run right otherwise?
