True Duals. Has THIS idea been proposed?
Okay, I am getting educated on true duals pros and cons. What I have learned is there are terrific gains in power but the downside is less ground clearance and they might be noisy as Hell due to limited room for full size mufflers for a daily driver, or in my case a fun car that barely ever sees the track.
I have an idea that would give me better flow, great ground clearance and might not be race car loud. One would not have to use bullet mufflers or resonators but yet use a full size muffler.
If one were to copy the 2.5" pipe routing like what bassani uses:
http://stealthram.com/bassanidualexhaust.htm
And use this Dynomax full size muffler in the stock location:
http://www.jegs.com/p/Dynomax/760549/10002/-1
Would this make a true dual setup that would accomplish all three of my goals?

Now in the first few of the pics the I pipes are hanging down really low, but thats because the Clamps I used would not hold the pipes together, but I changed them out and its good now and they sit up about 2.5" higher
I used a magnaflow dual in/dual out muffler though. Its pretty quiet on idle and while cruising, but at WOT its pretty loud.

IMHO it sounds really good and I have got nothing but compliments on it and how alot of people like it because its not SO loud. I had bullets dumped before, but that was way too loud for my taste. Plus I love the look of the 2OTL and had never seen it done in true duals

I have done that with the magnaflow 3" dual in dual out muffler. It does not have the crossover inside though - I used a magnaflow 3" x-pipe before it then dumped the muffler before the diff. It is just as loud as the bullets were but with more ground clearance. Each inlet and outlet is still a seperate straight through pipe.
The muffler alone is like 175 though...I have pics posted somewhere of the setup, but I am not at home right now to upload them again. It is about even with the lowest part of my adjustable torque arm, and still higher up then the elbow off the drivers side header collector(which was then the lowest point of my exhaust).

I say go spendy or go home! Use oval exhaust! But if you want some retarded "think outside the box" idea... Get some oval (or not) 4", get all the bends put in as if for single, and then cut it down the center the whole way. Weld in a flat separator piece where you've cut and then you'll have duals in a single 4" pipe
.... Or BFH a new exhaust route down the drivers side
I like the fact that they're (I think) 24oz cans, and 5 are gone

HAHA 16oz cans and they do help for those tough bends that are hard to figure out, just sit down, grab a beer, and it will come
But to answer some questions I bought a couple boxes of prebent pipe sections and a summit x pipe, and a magnaflow muffler off of ebay that has the internal pipe so my car has 2 of them LOL. The exhaust was fabbed up in my garage by me and I have probably 35+ hours into it and its still not 100%. I still need to add some bracing to the brackets in the rear that go to the stock hangers and add a front hanger for the I pipes. Bassani does sell a kit similar, but I do not have $1k to waste on some bends, and with the muffler, clamps, x-pipe, and regular old straight pipe I have probably ~$400
When I had a tunnel mounted TA I had true duals with bullets dumped at the axle with an x-pipe and that was a real pain in the *** to work around. I swapped the tunnel mount for a full length arm when I swapped to the 6 speed and the new exhaust setup. Tunnel mounts are WAY too noisey with a 6 speed, always clunking, now my UMI piece is quiet.
Can't comment on power gains from a single setup to true duals, but from dumped bullets to the 2OTL setup there is no difference in power, but the sound is SOOOOO much nicer. I can actually have a conversation with the passenger without yelling at them with the windows up or down LOL, but the WOT throttle note is awesome. Hopefully when it gets nice out I'll make some clips of it to give you a better idea of how it sounds. Before I did the 2OTL setup I was looking at buying a 4" mufflex system and I'm really glad I decided to go the route I did because the 2OTL look is just simply badass IMHO
Sorry for all the pics in the previous post and rambling on in this one, but I hope I helped someone out
BTW thanks for the comments guys

So if I go 2.5" dual exhaust into a dynomax X flow muffler and ditch the 3" single exhaust. Do you guys think their will be significant gains or would it be a waste of time and money considering my power levels? I have an exhaust fabricator currently looking into the cost of the job.
