Ive got a strange car here, that I belive you guys can help me figure out.
about 8mo ago I bought a 1994 firebird off ebay for $1000, it was listed as a "parts car"
I went and picked up the car from greenville sc, and drove it home. it runs and drives good. the car is a lt1-6sp, I wanted it just for the 6speed.
the next day, I was looking at the car wondering if I should fix it up and sell it or part it out. thats when I found something very strange. its a 1994 but has a full working OBD II system. My first thought was to check the vin number. the vin number on the dash matches the door stickers, so i went online to check the vin and it came back a V6 car..... I was thinking well its a motor swap or worse a VIN swap. but I can not see any signs of the vin being swaped, and if someone swaped the motor, they did a 100% perfect job, everything is in the perfect place...... but i was looking under the hood to see if I could find any signs of a motor swap and I noticed the belt/emissions diagram. the stickers are for an lt1 and they have the same vin number on them as the dash and doors???????
Im lost on this car.... my questions are
Why does it have ODBII? Why does the matching vin numbers point to a v6?
And can you tell me any more info on this vin number 2G2FS22S8R2216483?
THANKS!
the car has firebird bumpers, trans am wing, leather interior with power everything, hard top, disk rear end, 155mph gauge cluster. and firebird style tail lights.

carfax shows 16 records (i did the free lookup) but i can tell you it is a Firebird V6. the reason i know this is because if i run my own vin for my T/A it comes up 1995 PONTIAC FIREBIRD FORMULA/TRANS AM, and when i run your VIN i get 1994 PONTIAC FIREBIRD. this leads me to believe your car is in fact a V6 and not a V8. why the vin is printed on the sticker under the hood i do not know. i also do not know why there would be an OBDII computer unless the motor came out of an OBDII car. FWIW the 95 LT1 uses an OBDII plug under the dash but still has an OBDI PCM

You sure it's OBD 2? Because some 94 cars and all of the 95 cars came with OBD 2 connectors, but are in fact still OBD 1, most people call them OBD 1.5 for simplicity sake.

no im not sure if it is obdII It has an OBDII plug, But today I hooked up my autoxray and it said ecm not reponding? Is that what it would say if it was odb 1.5?
All other cars I have had say v8 from carfax as well, like 1995blacktattop said. it would say 1997 pontiac firebird forumla/trans am. and ofcorse this one says 3.4L OHV
I also noticed it was made in canada. All the cars ive seen from canada ( only 1 or 2) had a reverse gauge cluster, Like km/h are where the MPH is on a usa car.
If it was not for the sticker under the hood, I would just belive it was a good motor swap car, now im starting to belive it is a VERY good motor swap car lol.

most likely. only the actual plug is the same. the wires i think are in a different spot. I know that it takes a special scanner to connect to an OBD 1.5 car. I wasn't aware that the obd 1.5 plug was on 94 cars as well. i think that might only be on V6 cars as i have seen 94 LT1 cars and they definately had obd1 plugs.

I don't think it was on all of the 94 cars, possibly only the later ones. Then again, the only ones I have seen were on V6 cars, so you may be right.

My 94 was OBD exempt. It wouldnt pass smog i tested it like 5 times and finally, i took it to a speacialty shop recomended to me by the state. he said it failed becuase they were testing under OBD 1 and 2 setting, when in fact my car was OBD exempt. He said all this meant was that i could buy used/repacked cats instead of brand new ones and he siad it would save me around $500. I really didnt think he knew what he was talking about but he was a state licensed referee and he used OBD exempt setting ( i saw him change it on the computer) and my car passed first try. He then pointed out to me an underhood sticker that said OBD exempt. Weird huh?

I believe the car is ODBII, and the motor is from a 96+ and the car was a v6. I hooked up a hand held scaner to the plug and it read me back the codes.. my guess is someone has messed with the setings of the ecm , hptuners etc..
It looks to me like someone had a 96+ trans am, Maybe totaled or something. and bought a v6 firebird and swaped out everything.. Ive been looking at it and the car is silver, but the firewall is dk red, and under the trans am wing it is bright red. The car is just as frankenstein, many many car come together to make one beast! Im going to use it for parts.. But I must give who ever swaped the motor credit.. they did do one hell of a job.

I ran a Carfax on this car. It was born with a salvage title (11/01/93). Very odd, maybe it fell off the car transporter or something?!
Frankenstein would seem a good description for this car!
