Re: LS1 Hot Cam Feedback Still trying to pick a cam LOTS OF Questions
If you do a search you will find many threads debating the pro's and con's of the HotCam vis a vis other cams. I love my HotCam - it sounds great and I gained 39 RWHP with it (plus tuning and a ported TB).
It all depends on what you want to acheive and the money you're willing to spend. The HotCam suited my needs/driving habits/budget perfectly.
Good luck with your search

Re: LS1 Hot Cam Feedback Still trying to pick a cam LOTS OF Questions
I know there are better performance cams than the Hot Cam out there, but for me, this is the one. First off, it's a GM part. Second, It's relatively cheap. Third, it sounds nasty. And fourth, it gives a pretty decent "bang for the buck".
Those are pretty much my simple reasons for purchasing this cam (prolly this spring.
Has anyone had any major problems with this cam? Any imput would be appreciated.

I guess my hotcam didn't do so shabby either. It's went 11.3@120 on motor. Check sig for more details.

How is the Idle with the Hotcam? I'm torn between Picking up the Hotcam or the LS6 Cam for my New baby arriving next week.

Re: LS1 Hot Cam Feedback Still trying to pick a cam LOTS OF Questions
You may need to do some program changes or the TB drill out to address possible choppy idle issues with the 112 LSA on an A4 car. Some A4's can get away without it but that is the exception to the rule. It will idle quite a bit more choppy than an LS6 cam. What's the LSA on that one, somewhere around 115 or so? Personally, do your homework before you decide to go 112 on an A4. You may not like it as much as a 114 or so. I'm sure there are plenty that are running it in A4 cars and they'd be better suited to give you specifics. Good luck!

Re: LS1 Hot Cam Feedback Still trying to pick a cam LOTS OF Questions
I have been looking at cams for the past few months and so far from what I have read this is the cam to get for the daily street driven car. The bonuses are, less stress on the valvetrain, I don't know about you but the thought of replacing $200 springs yearly doesn't sit well with me. At .525 lift you can't go wrong. The duration is great for headers and N2O, I have both. I also have a 3500 stall, so it plays well with that. I really can't find anything not good about the cam, just some say it is not big enough, but I wan't day to day driveablility, and this cam seems to offer that without sacrificing it along with reliablility. You still get an excellent boost in power, port the stock head and get even more.I just ordered mine today, SDPC has a great price on this cam with springs, add Titanium retainers for just $85 more, and you can't beat the price.Out the door for just barely over $500.

Re: LS1 Hot Cam Feedback Still trying to pick a cam LOTS OF Questions
I am also thinking about getting a 'hot cam' for my 2002 M6 Z28. What sort of gains do you think I would see based on the mods I currently have (see dyno sheet). The car runs 111mph on the motor and 118.5mph spraying 3rd and 4th without powershifting. Could I pick up 20-30RWHP or 113-114MPH on the motor? I also heard the cam works well with NOS... what sort of gains do you think I would see with a 100HP dry shot? Thanks!

Anyone know where the "Hotcam" peaks?
Which would make more power @ 6200 RPM the hotcam or the '02 Z-06?

Re: LS1 Hot Cam Feedback Still trying to pick a cam LOTS OF Questions
When I get home from work today I'll dig up my dyno sheet from my hotcam install and check where it peaked for my car (bolt-ons).
I don't think the hotcam's numbers will be too impressive at 6200 rpm - if I remember correctly, it's powerband is pretty flat until right around 5K rpm and then it falls off pretty good after 6K rpm
I'll post what the sheet says when i get home

Re: LS1 Hot Cam Feedback Still trying to pick a cam LOTS OF Questions
OK, I got the sheet in front of me (I don't have a scanner at home so I can't post it). The Torque peaked just below 4800 rpm (361 lb/ft). The Horsepower peaked just under 6200 rpm (370.1 RWHP).
The torque curve stays above 350 lb/ft from 3800 rpm and remains pretty flat until just after 5000rpm where it falls off steadily. The horsepower curve is is pretty much a nice arc up to it's peak just before 6200 rpm.
The numbers at 6200rpm: Horsepower is right around 370. Torque has dropped off to roughly 315 lb/ft.
I'll scan it at work tomorrow and post it if you like. One thing - this dyno pull was done with the stock Torque Converter. Since that pull I have installed a Vig 2800 / TransGo & B&M Tranny Cooler. So my car's numbers as it sits today would be different than what that dyno sheet shows.
Hope this helps!
