aftermarket temp gauge

aftermarket temp gauge i bought a autometer temp gauge and ive been wondering if i can tap into my factory sending unit wiring. does anyone know if i can do this without blowing fuses or anything and which wire i need to tap in to to get the correct reading? or am i just going to have to install the new sending unit it came with in the other head?
