Default Need help with my 4000SS

Okay went to the track last night and the car leaves the hole hard as hell but after that its no good.

I think it just the tune but not 100%. When the car would go from 2nd to 3rd it would drop rpms then raise back up then finally shift into 3rd sometimes it would hit the rev limiter then others it wouldnt. Out of 15 passes I was only able to make about 5 full passes.

1st to 2nd wasnt as bad but it wasnt full right either. We tried changing mph and rpm shift timing but nothing ever helped.

SO what is some things I can check or try as far as the tuning aspect also would the 3.23's cause any kind of problem.

Any work done to the trans? How many miles on it? Did you log shift time?

It sounds like slipping third to me.

What are you tuning it with? Can you post up the tune? And scans?

beside the stall and cooler nothing. It has about 87,000 on it. Before I put the stall in the car ran fine.

And it fills more like it is unlocking and locking to me but I'm not sure.

I use HP Tuners

I'll have to figure out how to upload the scan.

If you can get the scan and tune uploaded I will take a look too. If you want you can email them to me, just let me know and I will shoot you my email.

Can you post the tune?
The problem is torque management, I've even seen TM removal write ups that are incorrect. But you have TM at some point because at the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts the timing dips to -10
That will cause a noticeable decrease in power.

yeah this is the last tune I put on the car it not the same as the one that is on it for that scan but it ran the same most of the night and I only made small changes since I dont know sh%$ about it.

I already know the rpm's and speed are wrong I was just trying different stuff to see if I could have some point to work off of.

Damn, thats about 99% stock. All TM is there. A friend of mine ran quicker bone stock at the track just by deleting all TM.

I'll attach my tune if you want to look at it. Use the compare tab, all differences show up in light green. Check everything. engine dtc's, misfire counts, and the obvious like TM. I compared yours to stock and yours to my current tune with a converter, there are a lot of changes.

Take a look at his log he posted again guys. Notice that multiple times when the car is at 6000 rpm which you can clearly tell he has his foot on the floor the TPS only reads 70% or so. In fact there is only one time in that entire run where its even above 90% and thats when it hits 98% at one point. I think there is something going on with his TPS sensor not reporting the throttle position correctly and its causing the transmission to not go into WOT shift mode. The TM is more than likely causing his timing to dip and yes that is an issue but not the main issue at work here, the only reason TM is there is to save the transmission, not make it shift like he describes.

Okay its not the TPS I checked it and looks fine. Guess I was being alittle easy on it or something

But 9000th01ss I pretty much put your tune on my car just to see what it will do. Well after a short drive with alittle playing(been raining so didnt want to get to crazy) the car seems to shift good now and the wierd 2nd to 3rd shift is gone. But I have yet to go wot because of the wet ground and already fish tailing all over the place but I'm sure its going to be much better. I will let you know what happens when I get a chance 2 go wot.

Now I have something to work with. Thanks for all the help guys. This is why I love LS1

Well thats good to hear, definitely post back.
Be careful though, I manually dropped my car down to third at 90mph and found myself going sideways at 120, on dry road. Not sure if it was the converter, tires, sand in the road or all three. But it was scary as hell.

So finally got to go back tot he track last night and started of the same. Wierd shift only running 13.4's.

Well I had a friend out there and we started looking at everything and discovered that I still wasnt going 100% throttle. We checked the sensor no problem. So I decided to take 1 more trip down and this time removed my mat thinking it was keeping me from pushing the petal all the way down. Well warmed the tires up real good and left hard as hell and barely tapped the limter on the 2nd to 3rd but ran a 12.6 with my buddy in the car.

So I'm sure with no one in the car and alittle more tuning I will be under the 12.5 mark which is what I was hoping for.

SO just wanted to update yall and appericate all the help guys

Glad it looks like you found the problem. I told you something wasn't right because the car was not seeing 100% throttle according to the TPS. LOL Fix the tuning with it bumping the limiter a little bit and you will be ready to rock.

I didnt know you had a post in here on this. I was glad to see you finally get it right. I think you and Shorty will be a good run when he puts a tire on it.

BTW...the guy with the Vette, OMG that car is a pig for everything he has done to it. I came home and researched those heads of his and they are not recommended on anything smaller than a 4" bore! On top of that he is on the stock intake. That car should be trapping 125mph with everything he has done to it. That is what a poorly planned combo will do for ya. (I want to get those heads from him)
