Street Racing & Kill Stories - fast??

ok, so everybody here knows I've been in somewhat of a kill drought lateley, well today I decided to take my camaro a little past the 1/4(by myself), I went to do a speed run, I planned on going as fast as I could untill I felt uncomfortable, well I get on this nice long stretch of road and WOT from a dig, I'd say around the 1/4 mark I tapped 4th, everything felt like it should, and I bang 5th, keeping it pegged feeling the car out, feels f'n great and I thought around the 140 point I'd be slowing, but the rush comes when I see the shift light come on in 5th gear and glance down and see my speedo needle burried past the 155 mark, WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO, I put er in 6th and let off, damn that wuz the most fun I've had in my car in a while, I'd say the car started to get light around 140 or so, and it got up to this speed in what I think wuz about 1/2 mile maybe 3/4 of a mile considering the speed I wuz traveling, I had enough time to slow down but I didnt want to nail my brakes above 100 so I just coasted in 6th untill I came up on some cars that were going the other direction a couple min. ago, lol, whats the fastest u guys got your cars up to?, btw, I have drop springs, struts/shocks, stb, ect... and I have had my car since it wuz brand new (98), but never had it up to that speed before, I'm sure the new engine mods helped alot! :burn: :drive: :D

ok, ok, so not a real kill story.............. but if you think about it, I killed my previous top speed......?...

been to 140+ in my car before, it doesnt feel too hot after about 125. car gets really light. fastest ive gone in a race is around 120 or so, when i ran an old guy who couldnt drive a c5.

Damn Assasin...that's moving. Hawaii huh? I would think you'd run out of land and hit the ocean going that fast. :D

I once did a 160mph nitrous assisted blast in my Camaro. That was the dumbest thing I've ever done. Nothing happened, but that car sure could not handle the speed. It was very floaty past 130mph. The stock Z28 suspension and GSC's must've been maxed out.

ive been 150 in mine, then had to hit brakes cuz i ran up on traffic, i did pass one car though, looked like he was goin backwards...my car didn't feel floaty as you describe, maybe its b/c of the raised spoiler???i don't know..sure in the hell was fun.. :cheers:

when a cop catches you doing 164mph, doesn't he just just rip up your license and put you in the back of the squad car?

i've only been up to 118, mainly due to lack of opportunity. i got the mustang up to 127, and it really wasn't going to do much faster than that.

I've been damn near 150 and the car seemed to be ok .. I dunno though maybe it just felt alot better too me because i was use too driving a jeep wrangler :confused: :emb:

Run out of land. HA HA! :jest: All you guys are sick! I think I'd punk out after I felt the car start to float. I've only had it up to around 120 or so. That's where I saw it after I shut down running an older T/A. Wouldn't want to get carted off to the pokey! Awesome MPH's fellas :devil:

I've gotten it to 120 down PCH in Huntington. Cop pulled me over said he clocked me at 70...... musta been when i was slowing down.

I got up to a total of a wopping 15MPH going down a on ramp after I threw a rod :emb:

In the built RX-7 I used to have I went just above 180 by the speedo, but who knows what the variance is.......prolly around 170 or so.

In the stang the speedo stops at 140, but I have had it to 5500 in 6th gear, which is around 170. Of course I have some serious suspension work on the stang, but it felt good. :cheers:

hell only 155 in an lt1 and 150 in a 2001 ss. got the mustang to 120, that is what the speedo tops out at, but i think i was around 130 to 135, and the bronco, well there is not a a TOP speed, only good for short burst in the mud and nothing else!

Buried the speedo and kept going for a bit longer in my '99 :) I was too scared to remember to look at the tach. I'd love to really top it out, just to know what it'll do for sure with my mods, but not sure the correct opportunity will present itself at the right time.

i was racing a civic and took my ss to 130. It was fun. I'd love to do it again.

130 with the top and windows down........talk about scary!!! :eek2: Nothing like 130 mph wind going through your hair! :D

I've taken it to 115 with the top down a couple times since and that 15 mph is very scary.


So...what sorts of things can you do to eliminate the "float" that you feel. I've read in Car and Driver a few times that the Pontiac always went faster than the Chevy.

Obviously in my case...I should put the friggin roof up! :cool:
