Question Question About Intake and Valve Cover Gaskets

Today i jsut pulled my valve covers off b/c i am going to be painting them. And next weekend, same thing i am pulling my intake off to paint that too. My question is do i need to replace the gaskets for the valve covers and intake?

If i am not mistaken, the valve cover gasket is an o-ring type gasket and you do not need to replace those? Also the gasket stuck to the valve cover now, i am going to pull it off, when i put it back on do i put some silicone down to make it stick? If i do, what type of silicone do i use?

And i will prolly replace the intake gasket, b/c if i am not mistaken once it is crushed, you can not reuse it? Other wise you will prolly get a CEL and be running lean b/c of a vacuum leak?

Thanks

I have pulled mine off a couple different times and reused them so if you are careful you should be fine...

you can reuse valve cover gaskets if your careful. I wouldnt reuse intake gaskets though, might get a leak, I wouldnt reuse them at all. Even when I do my camswap Im not even reusing the valve cover gaskets Im just replacing them.

They are absolutly reusable if they dont get cut. Ive had them on and off over and over and over on many LS engines.

Id be broke if I had to pay for new gaskets on these things all the time....

Valve cover gaskets = reusable

Intake gaskets = reusable

As long as they aren't ripped/torn/frayed, there is no reason why they can't be reused. As already stated, if I replaced the gaskets every time I had either of those components off, I'd be broke.
