Ripped the p.o.s. Moser Apart today, thought it was just the carrier and stuff, But the Brand new axle (maybe had 1 mile at most on it) was twisted like the old one. The pinion gear was smashed,the ring gear was missing 4 teeth,the yoke in the tranny was twisted,It is all junk. I just hope that the clutch stayed in 1 peice!
This to me is a bad name for moser. They clam high horse power for these, and it would not take mine. I cant believe a $2300 rear blew apart like this!!!! I will never by from them EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just hope all my new parts are in in time.

Sounds like the posi broke,then locked up.
I would pull the tranny and check the input shaft too.More than likely that will be twisted.
Looks like you are a likely candidate for a built 200r4.

damn man, now that really sucks. i guess thats the worse case come to life.


people will still keep buying 12 bolts, and strange and moser will keep making a mint because like you said, with the parts inside, it doesnt cost them too much to make one.

I havent pulled the input yet, But I ordered another one already, I twisted one a few months ago. So I said screw it.
Worse case, Close, I could have cracked the case.(knock on wood i didnt) But also might have broke the clutch, We shall see.
It sucks that they can clam those #'s and have them blow like that and it is ok. They said the 30 splin is ratted at 6,200 Ft LBS og tq. I bent one with just over 500, Why isnt it warrentied? I bent the brand new one to.
OH well no sence crying over it, Just fix it and move on. But moser will be hearing from me, And once its back together, and i send them the parts if they dont do somthing, I will have some BAD posts to put up about them!
In my mind right now 12 bolts are a scam.

BTW, they are rated at 6200 Ft LBS. You have 500 ft lbs, you have to multiply it by your first gear ratio (2.66 for T56), and multiply that by your final gear ratio (???)

So, 500 x 2.66 = 1330 x gear ratio (I'll guess 3.73)
1330 x 3.73= 4960 ft lbs of tq.
Mosers websites that you go 25% high when choosing an axle, so 4960 x 1.25= 6200

Assuming a 4.10 gear, 500 x 2.66 x 4.10= 5453 x 1.25= 6816 ft lbs tq.

You should have at least a 33 spline axle, IMO.

I think that the way I described it is confusing, but there is a calculator at moserengineering.com that will help you calculate what axles you need. I think that all Moser axles are warrantied for either a year or more. In any event, good luck, hope it didn't hurt anything else, Shawn

I have 30 spline, the new one i just put in bent after 3" of my first run.
I asked, NO warrenty on 30 splines!!
It wasnt just the axl, it was spider gears,ring gear,pinion gear, eaton unit, yoke, EVERYTHING!!!!! 33 splins wouldnt have helped with a eaton unit rated at 350 hp!
I got suckered by them, they clame high, but it seems like fasle addv to me.

Looks as though you threw 182 hp more than the posi was rated at. You built a 530 rwhp blower car, and really thought that the standard issue Eaton posi (not even the HD Eaton) would suffice? I would run a spool at that power, if for nothing else, safety. I don't think that because you had too little rearend, Moser is to blame.

Plus your 530hp is actually 600 at thr crank and torque would be around 620
Don't feel bad though,as you know I bent my Strange 33 spline on a 1.73 60' launch.

My car had the HD eaton unit. It had the good stuff. I ordered it and said give me the best!! I told them my plans for the car, I said the hole 9 yards, I installed what they sent and It wasnt What they said it was!!
But now im going with a spool, 33 splin,1350 tranny,diff yoke's,New drive shaft(old one will be to long) the hole thing will be new. Then out comes the clutch.
I just hope im ready in time!!!
