Street Racing & Kill Stories - Suprized by a Civic

Well the weather has finally warmed up in the north east so I decided to take my car out today for a cruise. A green civic with a carbon fiber hood is behind me giving short little revs to make sure I know he is there. The road opens up to 2 lanes and I give him room to pull along side and when he does I give a quick 50-75 punch and he does the same. Figuring it was a ricer I thought he would either get scared and back off or do a flyby but he stayed with me the whole time.

Now I am following him to get in front of the traffic for a real race. We slowed to about 55 and he beeped it off. To my surprise I only put about 2 cars (maybe more maybe less) on him to 120 where I lifted and got off the highway.

After we pulled over to talk the first thing he said was "That's not a stock Z/28 is it?" followed by me saying "That isn't a stock Civic is it?"

We got to talking and told our mods. Turns out this guy is running an all motor K20 and revving it to 9300rpms making around 280whp. The previous owner said that with slicks it ran 12.30s in the quarter, which seems dead on because I run 11.90s. I don't know much about imports but this impressed the shit out of me. After talking for about 15 more minutes we went our separate ways. I'm sure I'll see him around again, he seemed like a real cool guy.

I got a buddy (who does swaps for people, and did a k20a swap into a eg hatch) who runs a 12.1 in his crx. Seeing how their cars would fair. And 280 is pretty fucking stout. Cammed I'm guessing. Stock they are 220 fly I believe.

Not sure of the trap and not sure whether it was cammed or not but if I had to guess I'd say it was. We didn't really talk that long, just basic stuff.

Ahh, ok. I raced the white hatch I was talking about twice...first time it was running rough, he was fully gutted, I was stock, and I pulled him pretty good. 45-80 I had 2 or so cars on him. Second time though...him with full interior, and 2 other guys, I was stock still iirc...through 2nd, he was pulling me, he hit 3rd, and I pulled back, and put .5 car on him by end of 3rd. Very stout car.

Pretty nice. You would be a good race for my buddy that went 12.1. Averages 112, has gone 115.

Good kill... those K20s can be pretty powerful (for a 4cyl) with just basic mods. Mid-high 13s in RSX-Ss with basic bolt-ons and a tune ain't too shabby.

Yea dude...that car pulls hard for a basic as set up. Stock ass D motor, gt30r turbo. Blows up motors like crazy, but he has a stock pile of the, so hes not worried about it. 3rd gear is money...one the tires stop spinning, that shit books it.

Exactly why I asked. If it was a k20a in a eg hatch, with boost....that is a monster with no traction lol. k20a2 is alright, decent with boost...but the k20a is a completely different animal. I wont get into the k20a3...my friend has one..poor guy lol.

Those can be fucking torque (for civics atleast) monsters. Did he do suspension? GOOD suspension? LSD? I would hate too see how much torque steer and understeer that shit had lol.

Are you serious? How large is that motor? I would imagine it would be a bitch to swap..k20 is a PITA as it is, let a *should be* physically larger motor.
