Default El torro + heads

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of going with the el torro cam (230/230 .612/.592 111+2) but I'm undecided on heads. My first choice was the prc stg 2.5 5.3 heads (mainly cause of $) and the second is the stg 2.5 ls6 heads.

Which do you guys think will work better with this cam? I'm a little fearful ill get the 5.3 and be disappointed lol.

Also with either head what small tweaks would you guys recommend to the cam specs to maximize the gains?

On a lid/LT/TD/ls6 intake car if that info helps.

Thanks!

i believe the el torro was spec'd for cam only setups. You may be happier if you choose heads first then match the cam specs (or tweaks)

It doesnt sound like you could go wrong with any of those heads. Its all based on personal preference.

I plan on running ported 241s with my eltorro cam. I talked to predator z and he suggested to keep my 241s to have a 220cc intake runner. Ill also be runnin stock vavles.

Im pretty sure it was mostly a cam only as stated above^

Hmm I didnt really think about it being cam only. In hindsight from what I've read that makes more sense.

I can't remember exactly but predator recommended a 230/232 type cam if your going with heads and not staying cam only. I would look into that one...

This is a good all around street/strip cam.
If you want a more strip oriented cam (not full drag but more strip), the I would recommend his big brother
236/236 .615/.602 111+0 LSA, this cam is lethal with 14* overlap, equidistand IVO/EVC from TDC (meaning it will carry to the moon after peak), yet 49 EVO for good mid range trq.
Mind you this cam is tight on PTV but will fit with stock heads. That is the biggest cam I would install without flycutting.

Thank you for posting that! Anyone else have any input? I have a few more days before the TSP sale ends.

Predator Z told me to go LS2/LS6 243 casting unmilled with stock valves or TSP/PRC 5.3L heads stage 2.5.

predator suggested that the EL torro is more of a cam only setup. He told me to go with its big brother the 236/236 as it works better with ported/aftermarket heads.
