Paint & Body Work - hows this price for hood repaint?
my hood is in bad condition, in places it looks like it's down to the bare metal. however the rest of the paint surfaces are in great condition. i went to get an estimate for a hood re-paint at a body shop today and here is the breakdown:
remove hood
bring the entire hood down to the metal
repaint + clear coat
replace "ram air" stickers ($55 each? wtf?)
reinstall hood
finish the paint to blend it w/ body panels
total for supplies, labor, tax: $613
does this price seem a little high for just a black hood re-paint? i know with paint you get what you pay for but i thought it would be closer to $400 or so.

Find someone with a vinyl cutter and get the pair of stickers for about $5. So now you are down to $508? Damn man $110 for some stickers, that's madness.

for 613 bucks you could buy a compressor a starter HVLP gun kit (with multiple guns) all your supplies, including paint sandpaper air line tape etc, and have enough left over to buy a keg and have a lil get together... thats what I would do

I would do it for 199.99. Beat you vert z. That price sounds about right though for a body shop to do it. But i say now is a good time to learn to paint.

$600 sounds a little high for black. $350-400 would be about right, and sounds like they are marking up those decals. Get them yourself online and you'll save some.

yeah thats a bit steep. i paid $730 to have my WS6 hood repaired (had some corner scuffing and a small hole that needed filled because it was a defect) and painted on both sides, and they painted my headlight doors as well has painting my roof panel behind the t-tops (was starting to show some white dots in the clear) and they installed the hood too.
so $613 is a bit pricey. i did not get any ram air stickers put on my hood but i would have gone aftermarket if i did (i was thinking of getting gold to match my rear filler)

600 is right about on que for a body shop. Did you tell them you are paying for it or insurance. Some places only work with insurance so thier quotes are higher. You should be able to find some one to do it who does side work for a few hundred.

what on earth happened to it?
I just got an estimate at another body shop and this time it was $832! this included the headlight doors as well. both places i told them it was out of pocket not insurance.
when i got the car in 2005 there was just a little piece that was scuffed up. over the last 6 months out of nowhere it just got real bad real fast, no idea why.

it looks like your clear coat is peeling and even if the hood had to be re-sprayed black thats rediculous because black is the cheapest color paint. and the ram-air emblems?! 55 bones a peice thats crazy, check ebay for some

yeah i would just get the ram air stickers made and get it done, yeah its steep, but if they are blending the headlight doors and fenders (not sure why they would on black?) its about right for a body shop...

they dont even need to strip it down to metal.. or the composite. sand all that clear off with some 400 grit, sand the black with some 400, smooth it out with 600-800 (wet sanding)
then take it back to them, tell them to quick sand, shoot, clear, cut and buff... should cost ya bout $150-200... no need to remove all the paint..
Oh before you sand everything down, clean it REALLY good with auto soap and warm water, then rub it down with wax and grease remover.. save time and cash.. $600 to repaint the hood. WAY over priced, ask them if a blow job comes with that.

why remove it and do blending, there is no reasont o blend black and it can easily be painted on the car. some sanding and sealing a couple coats of base and clear and your done. 350-400 is about right.
