Corvette Performance - LG Motorsports has done it again Allngn_c5 drove home the new 402 !!

1220 miles driven, 53 gallons used and still 3/4's of a tank left for later :) adds up to a bunch of fun, a few races with X factor Pittbull (very cool person), some test driving at LGM, 3 dyno pulls, and then the drive home. It all adds up to an HONEST real world 23 mpg. I didn't use the cruise control on the way home. New motor and all I was varying the speed between 65 and 85 as much as I could, had cruise control been used the number would've been significantly higher. Actually it was less then 53 gallons but who wants to split hairs. A 402 that was driven for over 1200 miles with plenty of stops due to my sore legs LOL, plus a few races, and dyno time that put out an honest 23 mpg + lays down 517.3 rwhp with 513.8 rwtq is amazing in my opinion. Speaks volumes of the quality of LG Motorsports workmanship. I am very happy with the power she makes, too bad the Run flats wouldn't let me hook up very much of it. Still a lot more fun then the old h/c 346. Idle is dead on at 1025 rpms. Drivability is much improved. The extra cubes really tame the g6x3. Good choice of cam for anyone doing a stroker that is looking for tons of power under the curve. Especially when used with afr 205's. Compression is just a hair under 11.1 to 1 so no real need to push 11.5 or higher to make big power, sorry no DCR #. Everything about this build is better then the last motor. I am however trying to adjust to the calm exhaust note after being used to the thunderous bullets. Not complaining, actually quite happy because I don't have a headache from the noise level. Good deep and refined sound, and you can hear the person in the passenger seat, also the important 3 honks in the event of a race.... :)

Want to thank everyone at LG Motorsports, I'll start with the big guy Lou Gigliotti, his son Louis, Bobby, Anthony, Sean, and last but not least Mikey. Everyone did a great job on this project, and I am very pleased with the results. Don't want to forget Jonathan, hey brother thank you very much for picking me up at the airport. Funny thing though, the LGM limo looked like a Nissan Pathfinder, and where was the red carpert ?? Thanks man, and nice to finally meet you.

Also need to throw a thank you out to Ron at Vengeance Racing for going above and beyond by making the ported FAST 92 a work of art. Great job Ron.

Can't forget Tracy Lewis at RevXtreme. Thank you so much for putting the icing on the cake. The tb issue we had was a real let down. I really appreciated how you stepped up with a willingness to correct the issue and get it back to LGM so quickly. Thanks again Tracy, couldn't have done it without your tb modding.

Oh yeah, Brandon aka X factor Pittbulls, thanks for meeting me up at the shop. Very nice to meet you, and thanks for testing my 402 frc with your 3200lb 4.10 geared 415 stroker camaro. I was shocked that we were even on the second race. Must've been the VHT. That shit works.

BTW my tire pressure wasn't optimum for the ride home from texas either. I left 80 degree weather and 32 psi all around when hot, and drove through 70's, 60's and so on until I made the turn north and she really cooled down after the sun dipped out. I wathced the hot tire pressure dip to 28 all around and I didn't add air because it was actually helping with traction a little. Had the tires been 35 all round the rolling resistance would've been reduced and the mileage would've been better too.

You said it man. The runflats on the back were getting bad, but after the trip home they are basically done. Skipping gears was the only way to get her to move without much spin. I'll let you know how the PS2, and Nitto Dr do on the back.

I didn't doubt you bro, but I knew I'd have to exercise some serious restraint on the throttle unless I wanted to just sit there and spin. VHT worked wonders for my "test" runs against Brandon's 99 z28 m6 410's with a 415 stroker!! He got out on me the first time, and the second time we were neck and neck. Would've loved to see what would've happened had we been able to go for more then a gear or two. Highway 78 in Texas is so smooth.

They were good enough to run even with Brandon aka xfactor pitbulls' 99 z28 m6 415 stroker with 410 gears. That is once a little VHT was applied.

Brandon pulled me on the first "test run", but on the second we were even. He's got a strong ass car. He said she weighs 3200 lbs due to all the stuff thats been removed.

I am waiting for my wheels/tires via UPS. I couldn't drive the car 1200+ miles on a set of DR's. The sidewall might not have liked it, so I drove home on the runflats for safety, and they taught me to respect the car. She almost got away from me a couple times.

A little update on this thing !!!!!!!!!!!

4th gear pulls from 100-150 and 5th gear pulls from 100-170 are absolutely amazing. A h/c 346 can't compare to a h/c 402, even if the h/c is reused. LOL. The extra torque just pins you to your seat. Both of my passengers tonight couldn't believe it. One of them is a master tech for a gm dealership up here and he recently test drove the new ZR1 for an out of state customer that was complaining of a faulty traction control message. Customer said its always on. John drove it and said there was nothing wrong, just don't give it so much gas. LOL. When he compared the pull of my car to the new ZR1 I was shocked. He said close, but the ZR1 has me by a little. Oh well, I'm N/A not supercharged. He said you got a good point there.

Anyone on the fence about doing a stroker ?? If you can afford it, then do it. Don't second guess it. LG Motorsports can handle the job too. They exceeded my expectations.

I have followed your build threads and so forth. Awesome to hear how the car actually feels now. My 404 is being built this week and I am coming from 475rwhp, 430ftlbs HCI from my LS2. I figured low 500rwhp with the 404, yet I was a little concerned about only gaining 30-40rwhp at peak. But after reading your experiences, looks like the power under the curve is going to be an amazing difference! I am going with a little bit bigger cam, stage III 243 heads (340cfm, 240), ported FAST/TB and supporting mods. I hope I will be as satisfied as you. BTW, what gears do you have in your Vette?

You said it Tracy. Thanks again for all the help you gave in corrected the tb. It must've been one of the early production units (purchased 3/08 thru Ron@Vengeance Racing)

Texas to Michigan 1200+ mile trip that overall averaged 23 mpg was a lot lower then what this motor will do, mostly because of varying the speeds to assist final break in, and running the a/c. When I am able to take her on a trip up north with the cruise control set at 70 or so in 6th gear and no A/C robbing my mpg, I'll bet 28 mpg all day. Should be making a 120 mile run soon. Should give an idea at least. I'll fill up here, and then when I get there and report back the results. Stay tuned....

Well courtesy of Brandon aka X Factor Pittbulls and his 10 second 415 ci Stroker, 4.10 geared 99 z28 I do. He got out on me the first "just for fun" run, and then the second run we were dead even. I don't know what Brandon's time slips look like, and Brandon did get out in front of me the first time. My tires were pretty warm after all the spinning, and after Sean put VHT on them there was a noticeable increase in grip.

Maybe Brandon can chime in. He rode with me and knows the car is fast, and we also "raced, for fun" twice. So I'll let him post his opinion on my car.

^^^ You said it brother, now I am just waiting for my tires and rims that I left at LGM to be dropped off by UPS :)

I am going to swap the Run Flats that aren't as bad as everyone says, just need to get them up to temp before you try anything more then a gentle roll. Cold they suck.

First I'll throw my 295 35r18 Michelin PS2 on and test them out. Second I'll swap the Michelins for my Nitto Drags 305 35r18. I already know the DRs will hook the best, but I want to go have some fun and need the PS2's for what I want to do. Anyways the PS2's will be a nice step up from the run flats, and the DRs will be a step up from the PS2's, so I am just trying to learn how to drive the car again with more traction each time.

You think the drag radials will hook, lol!! I can say with the power and torque numbers you are going to have a rough time at the DRs hooking even at the track. Hell, on the street I can even spin my ET Streets all the way through first gear.

Mark, I never said anything about hooking, I only mentioned that each tire provides a little better grip then the previous. Worst runflats, DRs Best and ps2's in the middle. I know the DRs won't hold if I come out of the hole with any kind of rpms, so I'll simply roll 1st gear and hope she holds 2nd and so on.

Back to my comments on the run flats, when they are cold you can't get shit from them. If you warm them up a bit by driving and/or spinning them to heat them they do act better. Not much, but better then when they are cold. I have found that 1/3 to 1/2 throttle is all you can use in first gear. 1/3 throttle and as you get some momentum gradually go to 1/2, anymore and all she does is spin. 2nd gear can handle 1/2 throttle or a bit more, 3rd gear will hold from 1/2 to 3/4 but WOT spins, and when you get 4th gear the heated runflats finally grab. Hope that clarifies things Mark. Hopefully the PS2's will perform marginally better then the runflats, and then for some real street fun the DRs should grab 2nd on up making her feel even quicker. JMO's

can't believe you even have runflats on your car, lol.
The Ps2's will be a bit better than the runcraps. Bring the pressure down a few pounds and try it out. The drag radials will be a helluva alot better, run about 26 psi in them. I have driven to denver and back on drag radials, not one problem other than the rough roads in colorado eating them up.

allngn_c5
03-23-2009, 10:02 AM
Sorry bro, but I was nervous about driving 1200 miles on DR's. Anthony at LGM was a bit concerned as well. I really don't like the mushy (soft) feeling of the DR's when going around curves. Besides my Run flats were shipped in the trailer with the car so it just seemed logical. If I lose air pressure with the RF's then I can baby it to a service center. I get a flat with the DR's and I am stuck. Now you see the logic. NO AAA either. Just out there winging it. I've made the trip several times and its easy but damn is it a long trip when riding solo.

Yea it had to of been a long ass ride for you. I'm sure alot of it was tons of fun.
I have autox'ed my vette once before with the nitto drag radials and car felt planted to the ground. Even in the rocky mountains it was a blast. Was nice to have the ass end of the car stick to the ground than worry about it breaking loose.

I can understand worrying about getting a flat tho.

I'm sure it will be great to get a set of tires that hook so you can really feel the power of the new motor.

How do you like the sound of the Big 3 catback?

I like it just fine, it has a much smoother refined vs wild sound. I have to admit I miss the nascar sound of the bullets a little, but prefer having better flow. Also the big 3's sound doesn't wake my neighbors up like the bullets did, but then again I haven't come home late, or left early yet so we'll see.

To be perfectly clear though, the Big 3 is rather tame at idle, and does get wild at WOT. Kind of the best of both worlds. I think that's what LGM was trying to offer the customer.

cool, that is what I like about the stock ti. At idle it is tame, even tho you can hear the lope. Cruising the car is really quiet till you lay in it. Then above 4500 rpms it gets loud.

Doug's car pulls hard and its very linear. If he had anymore gear than the 3.42s there is no way it could have kept traction. I was running with the exhaust all the way out the back and cutout closed. No to mention granny shifting the gears due to lackluster hydraulics of late. Either way you look at it, he would probably start walking away from me at around 120 and not look back. Keep in mind my 416 is only 10.75:1 and meant to have the heads swapped, as we are going to soon for low compression. It makes around 515-520/490 with Dart heads milled down to 60cc. Not great for a big bore trying to move a bunch of air. Still undefeated in the ricer world of roll racing .

Just waiting on some tires. My DRs and rims were left at LGM due to the concern of a possible flat somewhere along the 1200 mile trip so I drove home on runflats. Better to be safe then sorry.

You can actually drive on the run flats. Too bad 1st gear goes up in smoke with more then 30% throttle and 2nd at 50%, and 3rd at 70%. Had my buddy read the scanner to me while driving (Throttle %) just so I could better guesstimate the limits of the RF's. I couldn't win a race against anything right now unless I manage the throttle perfectly thru the first 2 gears. A roll from 80 mph I'd probably be able to hold 3rd at WOT but not 100% sure. She gets real squirrely back there, but is a little better when running a full tank of gas at least. Just filled up :)
